"Masked" groups and singers
Fellow forum members,
I did a search and did not find a thread about "masked" groups and singers, so I thougth that I would start a thread listing groups and singers who hid their identity either through masks or face paint. KISS Slipknot Telex TISM I am sure that there are many more! |

So, were not discussing their musical contributions ..... just that they wear masks ....beautiful
But on topic, Kiss has got to be the most famous. slipknot has quite the following amongst know-nothings. Mushroomhead and Gwar wear disguises, and Axl Rose's plastic surgery should count as well. |

Perhaps a bit off topic, but my mate's band played a gig with a thrash band whose frontman wore a paintball mask on stage. Apparently he competes nationally in paintball.

GWAR deserves a special spot in this genre. it's one thing to wear a mask, it's entirely something else to create full on body costumes so that all the band members seem monstrously huge.
aside from gwar the only band i can really think of that had a valid reason for wearing masks was mr. bungle in the early part of their career. after mike patton joined faith no more and started popping up on MTV he decided to wear a bondage mask on stage to cover his identity so that they wouldn't have to deal with connect the dot rock fans getting incredibly confused and disturbed by bungle's onslaught. he also credits himself as 'vlad drac' on their self titled album. by the time the 2nd major bungle disc came out FNM had fallen out of the limelight and they dropped the gimmick. |

I'm gonna have to add just about every mainstream rapper to this list. They may not wear masks or make-up, but they put on a fake, tough guy, gangsta persona. Still masks their true identity IMO.

Damnit! Why'd you have to go and scare me like that? I'm just scrolling down, minding my own business, and them BHAM! Sheesh...
Doesn't that Buckethead schmuck wear a mask? Edit: Before I get ripped to shreads by Buckethead fans, I admit I've never heard any of his music, and didn't base my "schmuck" comment on his talent. Just his get-up, which I find strange and a little desperate.
