Default Music Piracy - The Semantics

I've always wondered why, if law enforcement don't want people to engage in illegal copying and selling activities, they called it 'piracy'.

Everybody knows that pirates are cool. If I copy and sell something I automatically get associated with Blackbeard. That itself is incentive enough.

Any thoughts?

When you are downloading a song illegally you aren't stealing money. You are stealing presumed money they don't know if you are going to actually buy the song or the album

Try before you buy exactly, it's not our fault that most music these days isn't worth buying..right. Well thats the excuse I use.

I've noticed that.

It's like...I go through old Rolling Stones sometimes...and I check the number one song/number one album for that given moment...and I'm kind of like...wow...yeah...people really were hitting that cocaine in the 70's like it was going out of style.
