Default Re tagging music

I have a couple of folders (approx 100 tracks) that are not tagged. I know what most of them are and right click>rename will allow me to see what it is but WMP doesnt recognise personal tagging or does it? what is the correct way for tagging?

Also if I just don't know what it is, is there some way of finding out what exactly the track is via some programme?

Cheers peeps!

you just have to make sure you're changing the id3 tags, which i'm pretty sure renaming them in wmp amounts to. wmp should automatically tag albums for you though, i'm not sure which version you're dealing with but if you right click on an album tag you should be able to do "find album info" or something and be able to hit in the artist and album name and find it. there are also some mass-tagging programs out there but they can be kind of screwy.

The folders are compilations with a lot of tracks coming off free cds or odd tracks off albums that I did'nt really like etc.

I can't bear to delete the folders though as there are some good tracks in there.

you can try getting a program like fixtunes or something but in the end you're probably better off fixing the tags manually. "personally" tagging the files should change the tags most of the time.

Grab a program called Tag and Rename (I can send it to you if you want)... it's basically a lifesaver when it comes to tagging music.

There is a wee bit of a learning curve, but it is quite fast once you learn how. It can tag music based on filenames, alter filenames based on tags, mass apply tags, manually edit single tags, and of course view tags.

Foobar (the music player) has pretty damn good tagging capabilities... scripts and whatnot and just about any music player has freedb lookup.

yes, foobar!!

or MediaMonkey, it has the best "automatic" tagger, that can tag an album with the ID3's on file at Amazon in 5 different countries!

Default Tagging music

I have about a gazillion files that have been misstagged and would love to fix this. How do I go about doing this automatically, instead of song by song manually (as much fun as that is)?
