Best Sonic Youth Album (rock, albums, tracks, quote, songs)

Alright! I just think it was their best. Youth Against Facism,Drunken Butter Fly, 100%,Sugar Kane...etc. I just think Daydream is overratted. But whatever, just my opinion.

I'd have to toss a coin to decide between Daydream Nation & Sister.

I can't say anything bad about Dirty because it was the first ever album I bought by them.

And I agree with Lizzy, NYC Ghosts & Flowers was a festering pile of dog shit

Youth Against Fascism was the first Sonic Youth I'd heard I think I heard it in eight grade when I was really into punk and FenixPunk had posted it. I then didn't listen to them for a long time until I got Sonic Nurse because it was at the Library, I didn't care for it to be honest but I may give it another spin. I heard Daydream Nation for the first time I think maybe, a month ago? I liked it, not as much as other stuff around that time like The Flaming Lips, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., etc that was my not very relevant post I'd like to call "Ethan and Sonic Youth."

I'll now tell you I'm voting for Daydream Nation but it does kind of win by default.

Daydream IS overrated. If it was dirty that got all the praise then I doubt I'd whinge about daydream not getting enough cred.
head to head:

1. "Teen Age Riot" vs. 1. "100%" : both about equal.

2. "Silver Rocket" vs. 2. "Swimsuit Issue" : both about equal.

3. "The Sprawl" vs. 3. "Theresa's Sound-World" : Theresa's creams all over the sprawl.

4. "'Cross the Breeze" vs. 4. "Drunken Butterfly" : Drunken butterfly.

5. "Eric's Trip" vs. 5. "Shoot" : erip's trip. This was my highlight from the don't look back daydream nation concert.

6. "Total Trash" vs. 6. "Wish Fulfillment" : wish fulfillment, my favourite Lee track along side genetic.

7. "Hey Joni" vs. 7. "Sugar Kane" : very close, equal? Hey Joni has stood the test of time more though. I usually skip sugar kane.

8. "Providence" vs. 8. "Orange Rolls, Angel's Spit" : equal.

9. "Candle" vs. 9. "Youth Against Fascism" : candle.

10. "Rain King" vs. 10. "Nic Fit" : rain king.

11. "Kissability" vs. 11. "On the Strip" : on the strip, some will disagree.

12. Trilogy vs. 12. "Chapel Hill" big call both are just as epic oin my eyes. Chapel hill is my favouritte track on dirty so chapel hill.

13. "The Wonder" vs. 13. "JC" : equal.
14. "Hyperstation" vs. 14. "Purr" : close hhmmm equal nah purr.
15. "Eliminator Jr." vs. 15. "Créme Brûlèe" : I dislike both so equal.

Daydream: 4
Equal: 5
Dirty: 6

Daydream is more experimental while dirty sticks to hard rock formulas and shorter less complex songs.
Daydream sounds thin and hollow where dirty has large amounts of atmosphere.. most notable on Theresa's Sound-World.
Dirty has better guitar sounds, effects and playing.
Dirty sounds more comfortable in lyrics and song structures where daydream sounds more formulated.
Dirty era produced better B-sides.

Tracks Id more than likely skip on daydream: 6
"The Sprawl" , "'Cross the Breeze" , "Total Trash" (sometimes), "Providence", "Kissability" , "Eliminator Jr".

Bad Moon Rising - the first Sonic Youth album I ever bought (mainly for Death Valley 69). I also have a weird soft spot for 'Goo'...

Tracks I'd skip on Dirty: Shoot, Swimsuit Issue, Orange Rolls Angel Spit, Nic Fit, JC, Purr

Dirty is just Sonic Youth's sound watered down, less adventurous, and more boring and predictable. I don't listen to Sonic Youth for straightforward rock songs...and with the exception of Wish Fulfilment and the amazing Theresa's Sound World (which although it's fantastic is still not better than The Sprawl), it is in my opinion a pretty boring album.
