90125 was the first YES album I heard and I still love it. What a culture shock it was when I heard their early stuff-which I like too. I do need to get more of their stuff. I only have CLOSE TO THE EDGE and TORMATO from their 70's output.

Tormato is one of their weakest albums. In fact the band nearly broke up because of it, and it's the reason Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman left Yes only shortly after it's release. There are some strong tracks, my favorites are Onward, On The Silent Wings Of Freedom and Release, Release.

Don't Kill The Whale and Arriving UFO aren't bad songs, but they suffer from horrible lyrics and some of the cheesiest synthesizers ever put on record. The best thing about the whole album is Chris Squires phenomenal bass playing.

90125 is a good pop album. Also the last good album they did until Magnification.

I'm supposed to upload some stuff for that MDHTV guy, which I haven't gotten down to doing yet. When I do I'll send the rest of Yes's 70s stuff to you.

anything off of rooney's first album

hot chips - over and over

the blow - parenthesis

pretty much anything i like that is considered pop, not that i dont consider pop music... i just consider it to have an even worse crap/good ratio of artist than rap.

Whats wrong with pop music? Theres a lot of crappy pop, but a lot of great pop too. Pop music is catchy music, and whats wrong with that?

I like a lot of pop. The Beach Boys, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Todd Rundgren, Elton John, Van Halen, The Smiths, Big Star, Cheap Trick, The Police and of course The Beatles.

I really would'nt class a lot of those as pop:

Fleetwood Mac-Began life as a blues rock band (and a fookin good one at that) before descending into aor mediocrity; however their music is still intrinsically rock, however diluted it seems.

Queen-They wrote rock songs with a pop sensibility. They mastered the art of the chrorus, but virtually all their output is rock orientated. Their aim was to appeal to as many fans as possible.

Van Halen-Commercial-yes, pop music? No. Eruption could not be classed as a pop song by any stretch of the imagination. JUMP seems like a pop song, it's commercial rock that's all. A lot of their music is blues based really.

The Smiths-I don't know anyone who would class these as a pop band, they are a prototype 80's indie band.

The Beatles- If their latter output came out in the 70's, they would probably be classed as a rock band. Their earlier output virtually defined pop music, so unfortunately;we have to give them a pop tag.

Pop music is music that the general populace listens to and embraces for as long as it catches their interest. People who like pop music (and pop music only), listen to music on a purely entertainment level, and rarely listen for musical/lyrical prowess, musical ideals, musicianship, ideology etc. That is why it is pop music. The bands I have quoted did'nt (just) make records for profit/entertainment.

I really do not know how to come back on this. We are both right, and we are both wrong. Pop music to me remains a musical form to people who don't actually like music a great deal, and are totally oblivious to any talent and ideology that is behind music. Pop music at it's purest form is music to make money by, therefore I cannot equate many bands with this tag. If they become popular by default, then that is par for the course. If we said that music that is catchy and accessible, then we could add PINK FLOYD/ROLLING STONES/LED ZEPPELIN/METALLICA to this list. They are on big labels, easily reachable to people and they can have instantly recognisable songs. I don't think many of us would dare to say they are pop bands, but the description of a pop band would fit the criteria.

The Beatles are a Rock and Roll band first and foremost, but they are also among the most versatile bands ever and certainly dabbled in pop and baroque pop music from time to time. I'd say calling them a pop band is fair.
