It wasn't though.
That image came out of the whole art school thing. People seem to forget McLaren & Westwood wern't selling that kind of thing back then. They were selling sex clothes & bondage gear. They saw what was happening in the art schools & did that. They didn't create it they were just the first ones to sell it.
There's a great quote in Lydons book where he ridicules Westwood & McLaren saying that anyone who was into that whole art school thing didn't buy their clothes from those two because they couldn't afford them anyway , and the whole reason the ripped clothes & bondage gear thing became known was because it was from middle class kids who could afford to buy stuff from McLarens Sex shop jumping on the bandwagon thinking that was the 'punk' look.

Uhh... I'm gonna have to say your right. It always seems like it's me against everyone else.

Well obviously he's not going to say, "I ripped up all of my clothes to look UBER-BADASS!21"

I'm not saying that's what he did, but come on. It's not like anyone who does that kind of shit would admit to it.

Anyway, I just find the whole "I hate Pink Floyd" thing amusing, s'all. I mean, why Pink Floyd? A good bit of their first album was far more "punk rock" and "against the grain" than anything the Pistols ever did. You'd think John would support 'em.

I think you've missed the point, but don't give up. C'mon now. Pop another quarter in, have a re-read. You'll get it.

I was using "punk rock" as a synonym for "rebellious".
