I think to say he's overrated on this site is fair but as both posters have pointed out he's not very known. I know four people who like him, two of who I got into him, the other is apart of a music forum and knows as much as I do and the other just knows alot. He's not very known.

Exactly, there are different senses of being over/underrated. I've never met a person who has heard of Elliott Smith in real life... and that includes my indie friends.

Apart from Ethan (whom I know appreciates the guy) have any off you heard of John Martyn? A British singer/songwriter who still hasnt achieved any sustained success in his native Britain DESPITE his battles with Alcohol.
