Maybe because I'm a novice in the arena of noise pop but I friggin' love this album and I can listen to it all day on repeat.

I also feel like what ropes me in is the bass sound that some of the tracks have.

Sure, it's not deep or have much substance but all music doesn't need to have those two things especially when it's just a pop type album.

I could use this album as a bridge album for people that are into hip hop and they would love it. I told my roommate about it and he loves it. He's more into rock though with a little hip hop on the side but it's very accessible.

Urban Hymns - The Verve. Two really good songs, two OK songs, and the rest is average. But for that we've had to put up with of years of Richard Ashcroft thinking he's some sort of music messiah whilst turning out his solo junk. Sorry, but the Verve do not live up to the hype.

That's because it's their worst album. I don't think anyone actually rates it.

Treats made it to #10 of my year end list, but mostly because I hadn't listened to an awful lot last year. It's loud, catchy pop. That's about it. Not remarkable, but I get a taste for it from time to time.

Bumping this thread to ask a question that really bothers me:

Explain the love for basically ANYTHING by The Beatles. I mean, Abbey Road is cool, and I dig Revolver, but everything else is just lame and overrated to death imo. I think that they were incredible for their time and I respect them, but the fact that people STILL think they're the greatest band ever? I mean, come on. If they had been born twenty years later and had made their music in the 80's instead of the 60's they would have been nobody and would've faded into obscurity. I just don't understand it.

Their appeal just hit so many people. I am unsure if Beatlesmania will survive another decade or two, despite those that think they may be revered for generations or centuries or so on. They will make music history books, but the % of living people in the world that listren to/like the Beatles will drop drastically over the course of the following years. Sadly, I suppose. Even at this stage, kids today know the Beatles because of the age old 'their parents' listened to them and/or Beatles Rock Band and/or re-release remaster. The Beatles are, to the youth, as real and relevant as Elvis. Historical figure that was inspirational, duh, duh, duh.

But, the Beatles had numerous hit singles. A classic rock radio station that plays the Beatles might have 25+ Beatles songs to choose from, and honestly, they have 50+ excellent tracks that stand the test of time for different types of people. Stoners and fans of psychedelics swear by Sgt. Pepper's and probably a whole lot more. Teen girls should have no trouble with some of their pop lovey-dovey BS "I wanna hold your hand". Rocky Racoon. Ya know, there's a lot to dig. They're definitely not one hit wonders, they've made maybe.... 4 generations in a row fall in love with them, and therefore are considered top notch. I love many bands more than the Beatles, but the Beatles made an impression on like a billion people.

I mean, seriously, we've got "Octopus's Garden", "I Want You (She's So Heavy"), "Here Comes the Sun", "The End", "Dig a Pony", "I Me Mine", "Across the Universe", "Magical Mystery Tour", "I Am the Walrus", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Day Tripper", "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Norwegian Wood", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "With a Little Help From My Friends", "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite", "Fixing a Hole", "Within You, Without You", "Good Morning Good Morning", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Happiness is a Warm Gun", "Rocky Racoon", "Hey Bulldog",

and that's just songs to get stoned to. That's not to mention 20+ other great tracks for romantic types like "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Til There Was You", "It Won't Be Long", "I'm Looking Through You", "If I Needed Someone", "Drive My Car", "We Can Work It Out", "She Loves You", etc... and classics like "Revolution", "Ticket To Ride", "Taxman", "Yesterday", "Paperback Writer", "Dear Prudence", "Blackbird", etc.

Go smoke a bowl or drop LSD or something :D

Mrd00d, you really just solidify my point. They HAD numerous singles, they are CLASSIC rock. They just don't stand up to today's standards, in my opinion. They were great back then, and they've obviously had a huge influence, but people that still assert that they're the greatest band ever are just ignorant of where some truly great musicians have gone.

Then entire thing feels like one prolonged journey, to me. I think the brilliance of it is the fact the songs are long, but long in the right kind of way. Points just sort of flow from one to the next, and you forget that you're part of something larger than just the regular 'hit song rock n' roll' format.

Of course, it was done more effectively with Soft Machine's 'Third' but I still feel Rock Bottom is top notch.
