'Bluish' is one of my favorites.

Riffs drilled into you, Josh Homme is also a very underrated lyricist IMO. One that's always puzzled me: All I heard of this album was bland and boring.. Can anyone shed any light on why people think this is a great album? |

R.E.M. is one of those bands I decided I'd never like (and how wrong I was). I'll spare you the spiel about Murmur's influence and its classic status, and simply say that it really requires repeated listening. I thought the same thing as you when I approached it for the first time... compared to other music of the time and all its bells and whistles, Murmur seemed a little tame, flat, plain and certainly out of place. But having listened to it many times since, it's an album I now adore for its ingenuous bittersweet sound. It's the kind of album that makes you feel nostalgic even though it was around long before you were born... at the very least it puts me in a reflective mood.

This. I don't hear what everyone else hears. I just don't get the big deal, though I haven't heard it in a couple of months or so. I may listen again tomorrow to give it a fairer chance. |

I love that album, I've checked out other stuff from the band that was good but nothing touched this, it's just great, proggy pop rock. The production is great and the only song I don't really like is Chupacabras. IMO one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

I dig a few choice songs (Chupacabras, the welsh tune), but that's about it really.
