Yeah you're right I can hardly move in the Can thread for MGMT & Animal Collective fans stinking out the place.

In terms of critical praise they released the 'perfect' album and worked on it so much but the band lost their creativity with it. Money is boring as hell and the album is far too polished and lacks spontaneity, the only album to change this pattern was Animals and regardless of it being my favourite album, it has a freedom and energy sadly lacking from a band that thrived on impulse in previous years.

I much prefer Obscured by Clouds from '72 that was recorded in just a couple of weeks. Far more organic to listen to.

WTF

I thought you were the big Floyd fan?

I don't see how DSOTM is "the beggining of the end", before this they made awful crap like Ummagumma and just ok albums like AHM and More, after it they made WYWH, Animals and The Wall, seriously WTF. How is that the beginning of the end? Just because they embraced a polished production style?

DSOTM is still their best album IMO, it might lack the organic element of Piper and Meddle or the very underrated Obscured by Clouds, all of those albums have some filler or less than steller parts though, DSOTM doesn't, musically it's their tightest effort.

I still like Money, it's overplayed, but I don't know how you could find it "boring as hell", it's only 6 minutes, has a great bassline, an interesting rhythm and some awesome guitar and sax solos. If you can endure big epics like Echoes, SOYCD and Dogs I don't know how that would bore you.

It's the tightest and most to the point album Floyd ever did (and still my favorite album probably), I don't know how you could find it boring unless you were bored by Floyd in general.

Money is boring as hell, and couldn't suck a fart from the ass of Echos, Dogs, or especially SOYCD. I don't hate DSOTM, I just find it immensely overrated and think that Money completely dispupts the concept and cohesiveness of the album. I would love the album a thousand times more if it weren't for that godawful song. Animals, Wish You Were Here, and Meddle are all stronger more cohesive albums than Dark Side of the Moon will ever be.

Jackhammer: The status that DSOTM has as being the greatest album of all time has more to do with the recording quality itself than the quality of the music. It's really just a recording engineer's wet dream.

Money is indeed the weak link on the album, it really disrupts the flow I think. But I still like it, and I enjoy the guitar solo a lot.

o_O

It's not a godawful song, I seriously believe you only think that because of it's massive popularity.

It's still an awesome song, it might not be the most lyrically brilliant Floyd song or their most "mature" song, but a godawful song? Really?

It provides an interesting break from the rest of the record, they needed something funky to change things up and I'm glad it was included on the record. The appeal of DSOTM is all the different moods it goes through (like the rainbow on the cover) and without Money or a song like it it would be incomplete and feel like it.

Money was the first Floyd song I ever heard, and it's what got me interested in the band. That's the case for a lot of people and thus DSOTM would have suffered greatly without Money. Despite it's overexposure on the radio, I still have a lot of love for the song.

It doesn't disrupt the concept of the album at all. How so? The album is about various aspects of life, one of which is money. It certainly belongs.

WYWH? One could argue that I guess, but Meddle has Seamus and Animals has Pigs on the Wing so f*ck no.

If that was true then people would be fapping over all of the Alan Parsons Project albums wouldn't they? I think that's a pretty ridiculous statement. WYWH and The Wall are just as sharp productionwise if not more but they don't have quite the same status. Hell, why isn't Division Bell more acclaimed if all the critics and fans care about is production?

The only people who consider DSOTM the greatest album of all time are Floyd fans but I'm sure that whoever a person's favorite band is, they would most likely consider one of their albums the best.

I don't think many critics consider DSOTM the best or even close. Actually I don't think DSOTM is that well liked by critics anyway, it's the fans who have made it popular.

Finally, some fucking insight into Dark Side Of The Moon. Much appreciated, since this is what the thread is about all I've had is questions as to why I dislike rather than why others like it. However I didn't enjoy Piper At The Gates Of Dawn much either, maybe it's just one of them things. But I sometimes get the impression to not like this band it's a massive deal, but oh well. IMO Pink Floyd are shit. Feels good to get that off my chest. :D

Wish You were Here is disrupted by the title track which sticks out like a sore thumb on the otherwise glorious album. It's like a less annoying song than Money, albeit as grossly overplayed, on an otherwise better album than DSOTM. Meddle is kinda' a weird album in that it's almost structurally the inversion of DSOTM. Meddle is a collection of disparate tunes, including Seamus, with Echoes being the one marathon song that gives the album it's central theme. DSOTM is a wannabe concept album ruined by Money (imo, of course). Pigs on the wing I & II...really? C'mon, into & outro, prologue & epilogue, foreword & afterword, matching ****ing bookends. How much more symmetrical, cohesive, and undisruptive does it get?

Really? You can't find anything enjoyable about Pink Floyd at all?

Let me ask you...do you like any progressive rock at all? Because that could really explain it. I'm not as huge a prog head as boo boo or anteater, but I had a big phase where I didn't think a song was a valid piece of music unless it was over 8 minutes long.

Can't really stand Prog Rock to be honest, but I thought there would be at least one exception..

And a band like Pink Floyd could've been that exception, because they're one of the best/famous prog rock bands there is but I just don't find them and the genre enjoyable at all. Can't stand Genesis, don't like King Crimson and I'm not 'avin Tool either..

So yeah, maybe it's just prog rock I really don't enjoy. But I don't like admitting I can't stand an entire genre (unless it's Hip-Hop.) I wanted to find some exceptions
