I think I may have asked this before but I don't feel like digging through the thread and if I recall I didn't even get a real answer, just something to the extent of "If you don't get it you don't get it."

i actually like this more than their later stuff, while it too has some of the same lyrical content and guitar experimentation from Tom Morrello, it seems more metal and guitar based, as well as the bass and drums having a little more prescence. so yea, that why I like it.

17 years ago, when I first heard it, I loved it, but that was also just before the whole rap-metal onslaught that made this album painful to listen to. It sounds dated now, but it was very fresh and original before MTV got it's grimy little paws all over it.

You just precisely summed up my feelings about this album.

I think the first half of the album is great, 5 tracks of pure brilliance, but the second half doesn't interest me at all. RATM are an example of a band that i find good in small doses, but i don't know how people can listen to them nearly everyday.

I feel the same way, too... if you swap the word "loved" for the phrase "laughed at".
I'm so ahead of my time, I could tell that rap-metal was horrible even when it was good.

The Stooges are one of the most overrated bands in rock music.

I'll never understand how a complete lack of musical ability is something to admire.

I don't admire either lack of/excess of musical ability. Ability is just the means towards an end, if the end is total crap(steve vai), then ability doesn't mean a lot. If the Clash were erased from history, music would be the exact same thing it is today, if the stooges had never existed, probably not. Besides I just like them a lot more.
