The very notion that a hipster would listen to a double Krautrock album from nearly 40 years ago

Every indie fan I've come across thinks it's better than sex, so why not?

WTF
I thought you were the big Floyd fan? I don't see how DSOTM is "the beggining of the end", before this they made awful crap like Ummagumma and just ok albums like AHM and More, after it they made WYWH, Animals and The Wall, seriously WTF. How is that the beginning of the end? Just because they embraced a polished production style? DSOTM is still their best album IMO, it might lack the organic element of Piper and Meddle or the very underrated Obscured by Clouds, all of those albums have some filler or less than steller parts though, DSOTM doesn't, musically it's their tightest effort. I still like Money, it's overplayed, but I don't know how you could find it "boring as hell", it's only 6 minutes, has a great bassline, an interesting rhythm and some awesome guitar and sax solos. If you can endure big epics like Echoes, SOYCD and Dogs I don't know how that would bore you. It's the tightest and most to the point album Floyd ever did (and still my favorite album probably), I don't know how you could find it boring unless you were bored by Floyd in general. Jackhammer: The status that DSOTM has as being the greatest album of all time has more to do with the recording quality itself than the quality of the music. It's really just a recording engineer's wet dream. |

It's not a godawful song, I seriously believe you only think that because of it's massive popularity. It's still an awesome song, it might not be the most lyrically brilliant Floyd song or their most "mature" song, but a godawful song? Really? It provides an interesting break from the rest of the record, they needed something funky to change things up and I'm glad it was included on the record. The appeal of DSOTM is all the different moods it goes through (like the rainbow on the cover) and without Money or a song like it it would be incomplete and feel like it. Money was the first Floyd song I ever heard, and it's what got me interested in the band. That's the case for a lot of people and thus DSOTM would have suffered greatly without Money. Despite it's overexposure on the radio, I still have a lot of love for the song. It doesn't disrupt the concept of the album at all. How so? The album is about various aspects of life, one of which is money. It certainly belongs. Quote:

The only people who consider DSOTM the greatest album of all time are Floyd fans but I'm sure that whoever a person's favorite band is, they would most likely consider one of their albums the best. I don't think many critics consider DSOTM the best or even close. Actually I don't think DSOTM is that well liked by critics anyway, it's the fans who have made it popular. The simple fact is that I have known that album (DSOTM) for 20 years now and it doesn't stimulate me anymore. I rarely play it. Doesn't mean that I think it's awful. I just rarely listen to it and prefer other albums.

Finally, some fucking insight into Dark Side Of The Moon. Much appreciated, since this is what the thread is about all I've had is questions as to why I dislike rather than why others like it. However I didn't enjoy Piper At The Gates Of Dawn much either, maybe it's just one of them things. But I sometimes get the impression to not like this band it's a massive deal, but oh well. IMO Pink Floyd are shit. Feels good to get that off my chest.
