It's become so bad that people really can't think for themselves anymore. Take for example... (and this may not apply to all of you, some just might not like Green Day) I was sitting with some friends in a movie theater (about to see V for Vendetta, which was awesome) and I hear some 15-17 year olds talking about music... I tune in and out because I'm talking with my friends as well - then I hear the Green Day bashing begin. So I sit for a second and here is how the conversation went. Yeah - Green Day sucks! If I hear Wake Me Up Before September Ends again, I'm going to hurl. Yeah, Green Day sucks. I want to kill them all. (followed by a chorus of guffaws) American Idiot sucks, too. They are sell outs. Finally, I whip around and I'm like - what do you guys think about Insomnia? "I've never heard of Insomnia, who are they" No, no, that's one of Green Day's older albums. "Oh Green Day sucks, they are sellouts" So I heard. So you guys don't like Kerplunk! or their 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours... or Dookie? One of the kids without a confused expression on his face confidently adds... "They sold out when they made Dookie!" The others exchange glances and nod, "Yeah, they are sell outs big time. Only in it for the money" I nod. What songs do you guys know off of Dookie? "Uh, that one with the.." they start singing Longview - they all know the words, not the name. So I finally end it with - How can you guys diss the band when you know 2 or 3 older hits and the American Idiot singles? "I don't know dude, **** you." "Yeah, Green Day sold out. I don't listen to that- they just do it for the money" "Yeah they suck! They aren't punk!" My friends by this point have turned around and started talking music with them - and the movie started... bands they do listen to... "My Chemical Romance" "I'm totally into Bright Eyes" "The Killers" "Mates of State and Piebald rock!!!" sigh. That's about the same thing I get when I ask other Green Day bashers about it. That and - "Yeah I like their older stuff, but their new stuff sucks." Which sucks, because it would probably be more enjoyable if they didn't play it on the radio alllll the time... I don't listen to the radio - so I never know what's overplayed and what's not. |

He doesn't need to know all of the bands that a person has heard to know that they haven't heard all of the emo bands. Its a simple and completely reasonable assumption to make. Explain why you found it funny and why you 'rolled on the floor laughing'. Explain right now. |
