Though stations like Detroit 89X played quite a lot of Greenday for a very long time.

I would agree with that as well, but the real hardcore fans, completely lost all faith when they released Dookie. Everyone thinks that they sold out at American Idiot. I think they always sucked, but sold out at Dookie. EVeryone makes it seem like Dookie was a work of brilliance.
