I agree with your rationale behind the whole Birdland / Manic Street Preachers thing. I saw Birdland a couple of times in the early 90s and their live shows were always a riot - in fact I nearly got my head taken off by their guitars during a particularly enthusiastic end of set instrument trashing. By comparison, I saw Manic Street Preachers around the time of Motown Junk and they came across a bit like a group of kids playing at being rebellious...

Keep up the good work - I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your list!
