It's fantastic pop. The early tracks on Please Please Me, With The Beatles, Hard Day's Night etc. are some of the best pop songs I've ever heard. The songwriting is magical, second to none. People instantly fall in love with it. I hope you didn't mean "bubblegum" in a derogatory way!
To Comus: Just because it's something that is likely to have mass appeal (and it did) does not make it any less worthy than something harder to listen to. Its beauty lies in the uncanny expertise of the hooks. |
