Sometimes I'm Happy - Nat King Cole Trio
Sometimes I'm happy, Sometimes I'm blue. My disposition Depends on you. Sometimes I love you, Sometimes I hate you. But when I hate you, It's 'cause I love you. That's how I am So what can I do? I'm happy when I'm with you. Pretty much says it all, I think... |

Sweet - "Love is Like Oxygen"
I can't believe I haven't posted this sweet "Sweet" song yet in the thread! This was the first love song that really hit me, making me realize as a kid that there was some aspect of love I didn't yet understand fully...something that made people yearn (for more than their mom when homesick! ). I have a strong memory of standing in my parents' bedroom where the radio was...I think my brother was listening to it...when this song came on. I listened, I really listened, transfixed by the lyrics and the mournful sound of the sad part contrasting with the power of the rock sections. I realized that the song was more than just music: it was about some deeper emotion. It made me wonder, *is* love like oxygen? *Can* people exist without it? What happens to them when they do? And then I felt sorry for the poor guy who was missing someone he loved.

There are lots of better love songs out there, but this has always been my favorite. The best part is near the end in the background when you can hear the lines "Don't know/don't care/all I know is you can take me there! Take me there! Take me there!....etc." Yeah, this isn't really an upbeat/happy kind of love song, but there's some sort of depth to it that a lot of their other songs don't have. The live versions usually have great guitar bits at the end, too.
Oasis - Slide Away - YouTube If I had to pick one other song, it would have to be Beginnings by Chicago. Totally different music but great nonetheless. |
