They're one of the most unique and innovative bands in history. They fuse a dozen different genres into extended improvisational masterpieces on their incredible live albums, and also have the ability to write good pop songs. All the members had a high level of musicianship, and the band represented hippy culture in early 70's. Not to mention that they're an incredibly influential psychedelic band.

2. Dozens? List them? Sounds like an exaggeration to me. 3. So? Plenty of bands have the ability to write good pop songs. Pop isn't the most complex genre in the world. 4. Musicianship doesn't equal good music look at Dream Theater. 5. How is representing the hippie culture even worth stating? 6. They were plenty more influential bands then them some of which even predate them like Country Joe & The Fish and the Zombies. The Doors started the same time as them and they were be tter then theres Hendrix and Cream and so on. You're overrating them. |

Very funny with your wikipedia heading...I'm absolutely cracking up...I don't see how you can say they were just one of the first jam bands, they made far more complicated music than any of their contemporaries, and how is them achieving iconic status for an entire sub-culture not worth mentioning? And I fail to see how Cream, Hendrix and The Zombies are relevant.

3. This is a discussion of the greatness of a band, and having iconic status makes them 'greater'. That's just my opinion. I feel that artists like Madonna's pop culture status gives them a larger importance in the music world. |
