Well you never stated that you wanted older material in any case their debut album Killing Joke is the best place to start, as it is with almost all bands.

It's tough to say because they did have a few different styles. More synth-pop-ish stuff in the 80s (dark of course), getting heavier in the late 80s and early 00s, then really drugged-out, then a little more accessible.

I made a 16-track comp a while back for a thread called "Oi ..... Make Me A Compilation You Bastard", here is a direct link to the post where you can download it. I liked that thread, but essentially it's just like the "Beginner's Guide to..." thread. Anyway I personally prefer checking out an album when I'm new to a band, rather than a comp. So if you feel the same way, let me know if you have a general idea of the style you might prefer, and I'll recommend one.

+81 11-06-2009 12:32 PM

I usually start with bands at the beginning, regardless of accessibility and would prefer to check out a full album. I'd rather check out the dark synth stuff first and go from there.

sidewinder 11-06-2009 02:40 PM

Cool, I like starting at the beginning too. I'll set you up when I get home.

EDIT: Nevermind. Found it. :)

jackhammer 11-10-2009 04:08 PM

I have asked before but it was a while ago, so here goes again. i'm desperate for this one. The closet I have found is a bunch of badly recorded demos for the album which just won't do.

You both should definitely checkout Ohio Players album Honey. It's a little more polished but still down and dirty Funk and if you want an entry to underground Funk, then this compilation is absolutely essential:

Ohio Players have been on my radar for too long now without doing something about it, so thanks for that JH. Theres a track of two of theirs in a playlist i need to get round to listening to as well.

I dare say ill give that comp a shot too cause it could be just what im looking for.
