No one really talks about Beatles in terms of their talent, with the exception of the common opinion that Lennon was a good songwriter. They were a pivotal pop band, and believe it or not, their influences go beyond and into your realm of music.
BTW, bands like metallica, guns and roses, korn, good charlotte, blink 182, and the other bands you have mentioned are indeed very radio friendly, and I find it hard to believe that you enjoy music from these bands and find the beatles to be overrated. Talk about "mediocre" bands- the bands you named are less than mediocre.

the beatles are over-rated. Harrison was the most talented in my opinion out of the 4.

(nothing against the others, even Ringo has influenced music today. I think they were at the right place at the right time, most of their earlier work was just covers of american blues/rock, but nobody wanted their white teenage girls to listen to the black artists....so the beatles get a break, blow up and all the white girls loved them.)

This is just my thoughts on the beatles popularity, afterall there were better musicians before and after them that didnt get the amount of play that they did.

let's see...considering they have had numerous hits on the radio and mtv from issues and follow the leader alone, plus a few from their first two. I don't know or care what they put out after those, nor have i listened to the radio other than news/weather info in the past several years. why else would anyone even care about korn if it wasnt for their mainstream exposure.

My friend can play the bass tracks after 3 years so your mate needs to either give up or learn a bit faster.

Although I hate to say that the beatles were overrated, in a sense it's much like the nirvana situation. Both amazingly talented bands, and both influential (although the beatles were way more influential than nirvana), but both have developed a type of cult following for their music. A lot of people seem to be fans of the beatles and nirvana now because what I like to call the cult personality syndrome. They both were amazingly talented bands, and they both deserve their credit, but I have to agree with you in that many people don't realize that there were other talented bands at the same time as the beatles, but that they didn't get the respect they deserve. Like you said, a lot of it has to do with being at the right place at the right time, although a part of any band's success is luck.

they both enhanced their particular genre and made it more commercial. neither started anything id say. yet theres no doubting either of the bands talent in my opinion.

^ no I'd agree, they didn't start anything new but they did make it more mainstream, and the beatles at least created a lot of things that were built on by artists who came later on. I'm not doubting their talent in the least, my first post makes that more than apparent, but I am saying that both seem to have a following of listeners that don't really value them for their talent, but because these bands have a sort of cult following built up after their huge success.
