I don't really know why, you're just bashing Rubber Soul for the sake of it and because you want to look controversial. In My Life is one of the greatest Beatles songs ever, fact. Forgettable? Give me a break. Rubber Soul marked the end of suits and pop songs for the Beatles. It was a step forward in both image and sound. Rubber Soul is one of the most important Beatles albums for that reason alone and the music itself is amazing. After Brian Wilson heard it he wanted to make a 'serious' album, that album was Pet Sounds which inspired Sgt. Peppers, so indirectly this album is responsible for your second favorite Beatles Album.

There's so many amazing songs on it, In My Life, Girl, Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, If I Need Someone, Michelle, Think For Yourself, I'm Looking Through You, Nowhere Man, it's a very solid release. Just because for whatever reasons be it you're just trying to look cool or you want to hate it because you miss the days of I Want To Hold Your Hand you should at least give it credit for having great songs and being a major milestone in their career.

All your 'problems' with it have been generic insults that could be better applied to the material prior to this, the albums you referred to as 'greatness', like A Hard Day's Night, Please Please Me, With the Beatles, hell even Help!

Controversial? Few people who like The Beatles really like Rubber Soul. Revolver marked the end of the old and the beginning of the new Beatles. Revolver was more influential on The Beach Boys and then back again for Sgt. Pepper's. Haha, you just think I'm being SO controversial. You are actually being more controversial for disliking Help! so much.

You just get pissed when people have different tastes than yourself. I've seen it time and again on the forum.

I guess thats why Brian Wilson says it was Rubber Soul that made him record Pet Sounds and you know, seeing as Revolver came out several months after Pet Sounds what you're saying makes all the more sense.

No, I get pissed when people walk around spitting out idiocy like "Help and everything before it is greatness but Rubber Soul is trash."

Well how Wilson came up with something as good as Pet Sounds out of the crap of Soul I'll never understand. Guess it just goes to show Wilson's greatness.

It's only idiocy because you have bad taste in music.

Awww, I see someone pissed because their argument has no backing, they just got proved wrong and the only thing they have to defend themselves is "it sucks." Need a pacifier?

Wow, now I have my proof that you're a twelve year old pre-pubescent boy.

We have different views on The Beatles. I don't like Rubber Soul, you don't like Help! Neither one understands the other. I've met some funny Admins, but you take the cake by far. So pissy. Haha

I'd also be interested to know if you like Magical Mystery Tour.

Making an unfounded statement does not win an argument.

Like this; everybody who knows anything about The Beatles knows that Brock_West can't argue himself out of a paper bag. Two can play this game, Mr. West.

That being said, my opinion on this whole debacle is that while Pre-Rubber Soul albums encapsulated the blissful pop that became the standard for the industry, Rubber Soul started the Beatles foray into what some consider their most brilliant work. Rubber Soul is a transitional album. It maintains their pop sound and also we start seeing signs of their collective musical horizon broadening. The presence of a sitar and the innovations in the way the tracks were recorded also seperated this album from their former bubble gum sound. Lyrically we finally move on from the songs about romance -- not like it was a bad thing to begin with, but we begin to see the depth intellectually radiating from the group, specifically, in my opinion, on Nowhere Man.

Calling it bad music is... an opinion... obviously, but I begin to wonder if you realize the impact this album had on their career, let alone the state of music as it existed then, and now. It is, again in my opinion, that an album that "many Beatles fans don't even really like" could be responsible for this kind of thing? It's just something to think about before you go putting down Rubber Soul.

Okay, I know many people who throughly enjoy the Beatles and none of them like Rubber Soul. Of course it's all opinion, but I feel like Rubber Soul was in the exact same format as their previous work, only without the heart and ironically, soul. Revolver was when their work drastically changed, showing that they could go beyond pop and challenge musical borders.

Go ahead and enjoy the album, but I won't, nor will I think that this was when the Beatles began to change their musical format.

This is the intelligent comment you should have made earlier rather than the all inclusive "few beatles fans really like rubber soul", the comment is implying that you are aware of every Beatles fan's appreciations and thoughts - which as you might be aware of, is completely ludicrous.

I understand that you -feel- that Revolver is when they changed, but please provide examples. I provided a bevy of examples off the top of my head as to why Rubber Soul was THE transitional album and instead of replying to any of the aforementioned examples you just go on with your Revolver talk. So, why are my points nullified in this debate? And where are your examples. Again... anyone can make an unfounded statement, that doesn't mean it's correct.

Well none of us really know exactly just when Paul, John, George, and Ringo got hit with the thunderbolt and decided to do something different. We do have the music however, which speaks for itself.

Rubber Soul seems very downbeat with a few exceptions (Drive My Car), that track obviously similar to earlier Beatles tunes. Nowhere Man and Norwegian Wood are abstract but not very complex or outstanding. Here, I'm going to quote Wikipedia (to be lame of course) : "The song 'Wait' was initially recorded for, and then left off, the album Help!. The Beatles chose not to include it on Help because they thought the song was dull. The reason the song was released on Rubber Soul was that that album was one song short, and with the Christmas deadline looming, the Beatles chose to release 'Wait' instead of recording a new composition."

That doesn't really make you want to rush right out and but the album, does it?

A huge difference on Revolver is Ken Townsend doing the engineering (also did it for Sgt. Pepper's) which was incredibly groundbreaking work. Backwards guitar, automatic double tracking, backmasking and closemiking, etc. Also, The sound is much more a mix of Rock and Pop, with McCartney being influenced by Motown and Lennon bringing Psychedelic sounds to the masses (Tomorrow Never Knows)
Rubber Soul did none of that.
There's my argument. Revolver was when the Beatles began to change their styles.
