Oh I don't think so either. But I can agree that it was probably a very early influence on prog.

And Abbey Road too because of the Medley.

I could be argued that progressive and art rock started with the beatles, the beach boys and the lyrics of Bob Dylan. And some other bands of course

Well yeah. You also have to remember that The Beatles were a pioneer for a large majority of genres that we listen to today.

What do lyrics have to do with progressive rock?

Also, art rock is progressive rock as far as I am concerned...

I think art rock, progressive rock, and space rock would/could be placed in the same category, especially if you bring Pink Floyd, Cream, and Jimi Hendrix into the equation. I don't think The Beatles had any evidence of space rock, however I stick with my point.

Sgt. Pepper "could" have been a proper conceptual album

but they ditched the "concept" after the first song, and only resumed it on the second-to-last song - concept being they were a Salvation Army band of the titular name

This, according to the Beach Boys onwards, was the first album that began a genre later labelled Progressive music. I do not think anyone who knows a reasonable amount about music would dispute that.
Along with many other things we have the Beatles to thank for Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, Jethro Tull, ELP, Camel, Kate Bush, Focus, Opeth and Porcupine Tree.
For reference I refer everyone to 'The 50 albums that built progressive'.
