Paul and John as songwriters while in The Beatles were equal. Though Pauls songwriting got weaker during the Wings years, and Johns solo stuff is obviously better. People still give Paul an unfairly bad rap.

George Harrison gets no love, in addition to being better solo than McCartney and Lennon he wrote alot of amazing songs with the Beatles. Here Comes the Sun? While My Guitar Gently Weeps? Something? I Me Mine? Taxman? Some of my favorite songs by them.

they were all really good. thats what made them so epic. both songwriters had different talents in their song writing, and together they had something kinda magical. its like they were musical soul mates. take that away and even though both of their solos have highlights, they are missing something. but only to
credit them two is silly, both ringo and george had good songs that they wrote while in the beatles. |

I don't think Georges solo stuff is better than Johns, but I agree that its better than Pauls. But I still think Wings have some really good stuff, and people give Paul way too much crap.
And I agree with jgd85 that John and Paul both made The Beatles what it was, so its stupid that so many Beatles fans are devided over somsething as stupid as "Whos the better songwriter?". Paul could never write a song as powerful and engaging as Julia or as funny and complex as I Am The Walrus, at the same time John could never write a song as fun and addictive as Helter Skelter or as pretty as Blackbird. Their styles and subjects were so different, this is why they compliment each other perfectly. And yes, George was an amazing songwriter too, its a shame that John and Paul held him back for so long. 'Imagine' if the Beatles were good guitar players...I would say that Paul and John complimented each other beautifully. If they had each gone straight on to solo careers never having met each other we might never have heard of them. No doubt they were both extremely talented but had a tendency to go to the extremes of their chosen genres, which for Paul was pop-rock, and for John was politically oriented rock. Combined though I think their collaborative works show a good mix of the two. Of course their earliest work showed signs of heavy commercilization.
