Default Defining Genres

Genres are something I've never really focused on or understood for a lot of music so I thought it would be nice to create a discussion about them. Discuss/debate the defining elements of genres/sub-genres that you know about.

After reading many forum discussions I am particularly interested in the Metal breakdown and Punk.

A good way to describe twee pop would be post-punk or indie with a more innocent, cutesy, feminine sound. A better way would be to listen to some, here's a couple of songs which I think define twee pop:

An umbrella term if there ever was one. Yeah, basically Germany's answer to left-field music, with a multitude of different styles. I highly recommend you check out this compilation as a introduction:
