^Black Sheep Boy from 2005 (i think) for sure. I absolutly loved that album, it was really good

sleepy jack 02-03-2008 03:23 PM

Yeah Black Sheep Boy is easily their best. I can upload it plus the appendix if you want. If you're looking for something new they're not the place to go but they're probably the best indie/alt-country whatever band in the past 10 years. I wouldn't pick the Stage Names as number 1 (In Rainbows, The Magic Position, Person Pitch, or Night Falls Over Kortedala for me.) but I think it was a good album just because they don't do anything new doesn't mean they do it bad/

GravitySlips 02-03-2008 03:55 PM

If you could upload Black Sheep Boy, I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

sleepy jack 02-03-2008 04:13 PM

Let me rip it now.

mr. goth glam 02-03-2008 09:31 PM

I need to pick up that album.

The one I've got (the new one) is really good stuff.

and to whoever said MIA can't write good lyrics:

it's not her fault that you can't understand her metaphors and slang. okkervil river writes lyrics that sound like they came from a 10th grader in creative writing

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-04-2008 11:31 AM

I can understand MIAs' metaphors and slang and I still think she's crap.

lol@people accusing ethan of only listening to "obscure" music

enemyat_thesix 02-04-2008 06:11 PM

i've never accused him of that.

his music tastes are quite mainstream and hipster, as well as shallow

ProggyMan 02-04-2008 06:11 PM

Lol. Says the metalhead.

I'm a hipster? This is coming from the person whos posts are either "I knew about them months ago" or "*insert more obscure band* is better" or "*insert popular band* is *insert negative comment here*"

enemyat_thesix 02-04-2008 06:32 PM

pretty much.

GKB116 02-04-2008 06:50 PM

no, it wasn't. I know for a fact that enemy at the six listens to a large variety of music, besides metal.

not only that, but not all metalheads fit the description you were implying.

Rainard Jalen 02-05-2008 05:01 PM

Why can't everybody just be honest?

Be good peeps and admit that M.I.A. just is NOT particularly talented. It's not an opinion. It's a fact. She can't sing, has ridiculous childish lyrics often amounting to no more than half-baked agitprop, and anything/everything good about the music is down to the ****ing production team.

With that said, I'll admit to having enjoyed listening to her. But not because I think it's good. More like, because I like the energy , diversity, and some other aesthetics of the music.

.

^And that is exactly the truth

enemyat_thesix 02-05-2008 10:13 PM

you guys do know that Maya is a producer, too, right?

oh, guess not.

I'm done arguing. I'm not going to change your opinion of her, or anything for that matter. Enjoy touching yourselves to Conor Oberst and Elliott Smith.

ProggyMan 02-05-2008 10:15 PM

Oh shut the **** up. Defend this.
"Paper Planes"

[x2]
I fly like paper, get high like planes
If you catch me at the border I got visas in my name
If you come around here, I make 'em all day
I get one down in a second if you wait

[x2]
Sometimes I think sitting on trains
Every stop I get to I'm clocking that game
Everyone's a winner now we're making that fame
Bonafide hustler making my name

[x4]
All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!)
And (KKKAAAA CHING!)
And take your money

[x2]
Pirate skulls and bones
Sticks and stones and weed and bongs
Running when we hit 'em
Lethal poison through their system

[x2]
No one on the corner has swag like us
Hit me on my burner prepaid wireless
We pack and deliver like UPS trucks
Already going hell just pumping that gas

[x4]
All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!)
And (KKKAAAA CHING!)
And take your money

M.I.A.
Third world democracy
Yeah, I got more records than the K.G.B.
So, uh, no funny business

Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go
Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go

Is her being a producer supposed to be an excuse to the album sucking?

Rainard Jalen 02-06-2008 01:20 AM

At any rate we can probably rest assured that any role she played in the production was dramatically less important than say, Switch's, Diplo's, or whoever. Hell, check it out, it's just sheer f'ckin embarrassing that there's not a single song on Kala that she wrote alone. What the credits DO tell us, far as I'm concerned, is probably something along the lines of her being more focused on the vocal/lyrical side and the producers on the music.

So she has a creative role. Big damn deal. So does Fiddy. Fact remains, she's not a musician, she has virtually zero skills as an MC/vocalist, and needs help to come up with the miserably and embarrassingly underwhelming tracks that make up her albums.

Agreed

2007 had such epic albums such as Drudkh's Estrangement, Wolves In The Throne Room's Two Hunters, Wishbone Ash's Power of Eternity, Citay's Little Kingdom and so forth.

enemyat_thesix 02-06-2008 09:02 AM

even Amazon gave Two Hunters a nod

GravitySlips 02-06-2008 10:23 AM

Two Hunters is a fantastic album. I'd like to know some more bands like Wolves in the Throne Room if any of you are savvy enough to recommend some.

Comus 02-06-2008 11:42 AM

WITTR are pretty unique in their little world of black metal, no bands really compare to what they're doing.

GravitySlips 02-06-2008 02:57 PM

Yeah I got that impression, but really I know nothing about black metal. I really dig their music though, and they're a very interesting band to read about as well.

Comus 02-06-2008 03:15 PM

If you like the sort of ambient bits about it, Moonsorrow is more folkish metal, but incredibly epic. Their most recent stuff anyways. Earliest few albums are pretty straight forward folk/black.
