Van Halen "1984"
Van Halen "Fair Warning"
Before you remove things you should define what this list is about a bit more accurately.

What do you mean by "top 100 albums"?

Best, most influential, most culturally important. That totally effects what should be removed.

e.g. Madonna like a virgin may not be one of the best albums but it would be one of the most influential.
I suggested tons of recording that I don't really like because I was including cultural importance and influence as a determining factor.

What is the criteria?

What did Madonna influence? Really? Britney Spears? I'm growing so tired of these boring 80s pop albums being hyped as influential when in reality all they did was spawn the 90s boy band and girl singer phenomenon.

And the criteria is a combination of best, most liked, most talented, etc. You can say it's not concrete enough whatever, its a list assembled by all the musicbanter members so basically it's what we like and respect not so much what the rest of the world loves.

Here's a few I think should go...

Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band "Doc at the Radar Station"
No means essential , ok but not a patch on his 60/70s stuff

Circle Jerks "Group Sex"
Much better hardcore bands ain't on the list , Posion Idea & The Germs to name but 2.

Death "Leprosy"
Death "Scream Bloody Gore"

Surely we only need one by this band

Fields Of The Nephilim "Fields Of The Nephilim"
Only choosing this because I hate them

Sonic Youth "Confusion Is Sex"
Sonic Youth "EVOL"

Never really thought much of these , Daydream Nation is enough.

Slayer "Hell Awaits"
Slayer "Show No Mercy"

Even Slayer look back on these 2 albums & cringe

Talking Heads "Remain In Light"
Nowhere near as good as Fear Of Music , which should be up there.

The Replacements "Pleased to Meet Me"
The Replacements "Tim"
I think Let It Be is enough

The Pogues "Red Roses for Me"
No Rum , Sodomy & The Lash ?

The Durutti Column "The Return Of The Durutti Column"
1979 , plus Vini Reilly says it's shit.

Pantera "Metal Magic"

Germicide didn't really touch GI (79) but I'll swap out Group Sex for a Poison Idea album but they only had two releases neither of which I'm familiar with. Kings of Punk and War All the Time I'll letyou decide which stays.

Swapped out the Pogues album for Rum, Sodomy and the Lash as well as Remain In Light for Fear of Music. Removed the rest. I've also gone ahead and removed the following albums just because I think even fans of them would agree there's much better albums that belong on the list and I even listed reason.

Bruce Springsteen "Nebraska"
I don't care for Springsteen but I think Born in the USA is enough.

Dead Kennedys "Plastic Surgery Disasters"
Fresh Fruit was way way better.

Gorilla Biscuits "Start Today"
I don't really know why I added this in the first place.

Madonna "Like a Virgin"

Posted my reasoning.

Queen "The Works"
Queen started going downhill in the 80s, it started with this album.

Queen "The Game"
They weren't good in the 80s.

Tears for Fears "The Hurting"

it's tears for fears

The Smiths "Strangeways, Here We Come"

The Smiths are my favorite band but even I don't care much for this album. It had some really really really good songs like Girlfriend in a Coma and A Rush and A Push etc but most of this album was stuff like I Won't Share You and Unhappy Birthday, which lost their novelty pretty fast and are some of the worst smiths songs.

Why do I keep thinking GI came out in 82

Edit: 1990 Feel the Darkness LP (American Leather)

Ignore that one too

So whats the stance on Van Halen? I realize Eddie was an inventive guitarist and all but Van Halen never struck me as anything more than your typical 80s band that was hyped to death by classic rock fans just because. It's not like having him as your guitarist lends you any credibility or worthiness seeing as he played on a Michael Jackson song.

I'd agree with all those going and also agree "Fear of Music" is better than Remain in Light. I also think "Speaking in Tongues" gives "Fear of Music" a run for its money. It's a pretty good record.

I noticed them missing from your hit-list. IMO 1984 is their best album but I'm not a hardcore fan. I'm sure the real halen fans would opt for "Fair Warning".

I'd vote to keep 1984.

I'd also vote to keep "The Game" There are tons of good tunes on it.
If you put on "Another One Bite the Dust" in any club in the world today it would pack the dance floor.
