Future of the Left - The Plot Against Common Sense (2012) I love it when an album is unexpectedly awesome, either because you had mixed expectations for it, or you knew nothing about it. For me, this album falls into the second category: I have a word doc with thousands of album recommendations listed in it that has sat and grown for years. Often I'll put items into the list and have no recognition of them when I pull them out again, as I did with this one. This is a post-hardcore album which is equal parts bass chuggery, Unwound high-pitched dronery, and industrial static tweakery. It's pop-punk melody meets avant-prog dissonance, with vaguely nerdy, desperate half-sung shouting through it. It's never boring, and constantly surprising, and lyrically it's bitter and sardonic, at times hilarious. AND they're WELSH. I guess if Los Campesinos! did post-hardcore, it would sound half-way like this. Last edited by Paedantic Basterd; 08-20-2013 at 12:55 PM. |

Nightmares On Wax - Smoker's Delight
Completely forgot I even had this; it's just been gathering dust in the forgotten portion of my external hard drive for at least a couple of years since I downloaded it and never listened to it. Fuck me is this good stuff though. Some really great grooves, very Thievery Corporation-esque basslines, interesting ideas with sparse, overlapping guitar and synth tracks. Definitely sounds like it's somewhere on a more jazzy side of trip-hop stylistically -definitely gonna be giving this a lot more listens in the near future. |

Talk about a trip through an inter-dimension space time capsule.

Aesop Rock - Labor Days As most of you will know, this is my favourite album. So I thought I would listen to it. I dig. Other albums I have been listening to (and digging) lately... Young Fathers - Tape One X - Los Angeles/Wild Gift The Pixies - Surfer Rosa & Come On Pilgrim (and Doolittle) Clams Casino - Instrumentals (tape one and two)

Phlebotomized - Immense Intense Suspense Don't judge this album by it's cover, because it's pretty lame. But this album is most certainly NOT lame. Incredible progressive death metal with soft acoustic parts, avant-garde-ish elements, heavy and awesome violin use, and complex rhythms. |
