Bomb the Music Industry! - Vacation (2011)

The most recent album from a band I had heard a little bit of but didn't think was anything special. Really exceeded my expectations. BtMI is generally grouped in with 'skate punk' bands, which probably deters a lot of people, but Vacation has a much more mature sound than many other records similarly considered while still maintaining the fun riffs and rhythms customary to the genre.

I fear it may be a case of too much too soon. It might turn out like Death Grips. Release an awesome album, then follow it up with an underwhelming second release months later.

Love that album.

The first time I heard about 1349 was with Sculptor of Flesh, so I started with Hellfire. I never thought to go backwards. Silly me!

A lot of people have been hailing this particular monster as the second coming of NWOBHM-styled power metal (tinged with a fair amount of other influences as well), and I'm not really in much of a position to disagree. It's a sonic bulldozer with some tasty production to match!
I wonder if they're sponsored by Games Workshop because that cover art just screams Warhammer 40k

I'm re-digging Nirvana's "Nevermind", Bob Dylan's "Tempest" and Jackson Browne's "Running On Empty".

The latter has become one of my favorite albums, hands down.

Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory and Injury (2013)

I remember thinking back in 2011 when I was listening to Mammal that this band has a lot of potential but that album just wasn't doing it for me in the way that other albums at the time were. I'm not sure if it's just because I've found 2013 to be a pretty poor year for metal, but I'm really enjoying this album. It's heavy, melodic, and really well thought out, incorporating the genres of black metal, post-rock, ambient, and sludge metal into one cohesive package that really works. Not really sure if it's going to go down as a classic album yet, but if you ever wondered what ISIS would sound like if they chose more of a black metal approach to music, this is basically that.

Don't care if this is a double post

Hacride - Back To Where You've Never Been (2013)

It was a long 7 months of ups and downs, goods and mediocres, but I finally have a metal album of the year. Heavy, melodic, varied, and just plain catchy with an appropriate run time. Definitely don't let this one slip by.

Also it has the jackhammer seal of approval as well.

sofa king chill, I love to put this album on when just relaxing or I'm ready to crash. It puts me in such a good vibe.
