Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain

Unbelievable album. I can't say which one I like better: this or Bitches Brew.

About fucking time someone on these boards listened to that thing other than me. Solea is absolutely gorgeous.

Big whoop, I got this album and the rest of Miles's greats years ago.
When did you get Abercrombie's Timeless?

lucifer_sam 03-18-2009 09:11 PM

No ****ing way, it's Miles Davis (and one of his most popular works). Not that hard to come across. But every time I've said something about it before it's either gone overlooked or people just don't care. Just looked, there's 27 posts about SOS and I'm responsible for at least 16 of them.

I found Timeless about five minutes after you posted about it. It's not as good as you made it out to be but considering I haven't even heard of John Abercrombie before it's not completely horrible. It's comparable to the mid-era production of John McLaughlin. Although it's pretty obvious Abercrombie was nowhere near as gifted as McLaughlin.

Aaah shove off, everybody's a critic. :hphones:
Probably thought Spectrum was sub-par as well.

I only have In A Silent Way, I'd love to hear more lucifer_sam approved Davis if you wouldn't mind. :)

Anyways..

I joined this board almost exclusively listening to Elliott Smith. I've grown out of this rut since then, but today I put on New Moon for the first time in a long was reminded why I love this sad bastard so much. Besides his s/t, New Moon is the best example of Elliott in his lo-fi acoustic-y prime. It's only a compilation, but I'd rate it over Roman Candle and Either/Or easily.

I have been getting reacquainted with the definitive heavy metal Brummies Black Sabbath. The albums I have on mp3 having recently been re-acquired in 320kbps. In order of lovage:

then would come 'Black Sabbath' followed by 'Sabotage' with 'Paranoid' taking up the rear. I've got a friend who says 'Technical Ecstasy' is not that bad, but I don't believe him and have yet to hear it

:yeah:

My favourite is probably Vol4, but Master of Reality isnt far behind.

Molecules 03-19-2009 08:12 AM

yeah y'know what, the top 3 are probably interchangeable depending on disposition :p:
They're the kind of band I wish I had grown up hearing on vinyl courtesy of a Rock Father but this was sadly not the case

I was reading about it on wikipedia and came across the televised footage of their California Jam performance, there are a bunch of 'em :D
