Rokia Traore - Beautiful Africa (2013)

A gorgeous set from the Malian singer-songwriter, produced this time by John Parish. There is a strong, muscular flow to this album that grabbed my attention and kept it. I love her singing and how it complements the guitars & drumming. There's both joy & sadness throughout the album, and Traore expresses her emotions exquisitely. Easily one of my favorite albums of the year.

I kept saying this is a good album. Nothing too special, yet I've ended up listening to it almost every night for the past six nights. It's grown on me, and now I love it. Can't seem to get into My Maudlin Career too much though, besides the first few songs.

Camera Obscura have never released a bad album and Let's Get Out of This Country is no exception. Great damn album. I will say My Maudlin Career edges it out as their best album by a hair, though. It's very cohesive and almost a concept album. What don't you like about it?

Their new album Desire Lines is another good one as well (though it took a couple listens).

Let's Get Out Of This Country and My Maudlin Career are definitely their two best albums. With My Maudlin Career it's the slower songs that seem to stick with me the most, 'James', 'My Maudlin Career' and 'Forests and Sands', the latter is probably the most heartbreaking song Tracyanne ever wrote.

I still can't get into Desire Lines even after several plays, I'm not quite sure what it is but maybe it just doesn't have the same quality of tunes as their last two albums. Despite that I still think 'Fifth In Line To The Throne' is a fantastic song.

None of the songs really click with me as much as they do on Let's Get Out Of This Country. Maybe because it's a longer album and the songs seem to drag. I've been getting into Desire Lines a little bit lately, but nothing will beat LGOOTC.

Death Angel - Killing Season

I've always liked Death Angel, but aside from their debut, they've never been a favorite old school thrash band, but I've been digging up their albums since they reformed and they are really damn good these days. Killing Season is positively feral while managing to be melodic at the same time. Best album since the debut.

Just finished another replay of Desire Lines and I have to say it's my 2nd favorite Camera Obscura album after Let's Get Out of This Country. Whatever songs didn't click for me certainly have latched on with this last replay, and I agree with you that "Fifth In Line to the Throne" is a fantastic song. Also I'm loving "Troublemaker" and "William's Heart", and "New Year's Resolution" has become a welcome earworm.
