They are definitely not songs you can get a feel for with samples... They hook you with the way they evolve and add subtle flourishes to the songs. "Align" reminds me of that weird rave scene in The Matrix Reloaded and "Lupine" is brought to another level just by adding the subtle female vocals about halfway through. Though I'm remembering now that you aren't much for atmosphere. Anyway, I'd still recommend checking those two songs out.

The Sound - Jeopardy (1980)
A brilliant post-punk album, dark and melancholic but passionate and catchy as hell at the same time. The way the keyboards are used really add another dimension to the music and give it a distinct sound. How I haven't listened to these guys before I don't know.

I've been meaning to get that one, I love From The Lion's Mouth and I think they're one of the more underrated post-punk bands from the late '70's/ early '80's.

That's the next album I'm going to listen to. They sound really confident at what they do and how they aren't widely seen as an important post-punk band is beyond me.

They really knew how to utilize the post-punk sound and aesthetic to do some really good moody pieces. This is my favourite song off that album,

I loved that, the slow bits remind me of Echo & The Bunnymen at their darkest.

Listened to this quite a lot lately. Really good.

Pale Green Ghosts - John Grant

Really great out of left field record I heard about a few days ago. Sorta sounds like Beck if he took an electronic path. Lyrics are great too.

ENSEMBLE PEARL - S/T
I like this a lot. It's another collaboration between members of Sunn O))) and Boris and some other guy, and I'd say it's much, much better than Altar. Sure, it doesn't have another Akuma No Kuma, but it is really atmospheric and apparently it's influenced by early tangerine dream and surf rock. I wouldn't call it a drone metal album, as it's more in the vein of what Earth's been doing recently, but it's certainly drone. Waves of Eyvind Kang's violas and stephen's titanic guitar crash at the shores of this great, atmospheric album. worth the listen, 9/10

Nice, I hope you like it as much as I did. QOTSA's new album reignited my passion for stoner rock, so I've been digging back into the genre recently. Which is how I found Elder's Dead Roots Stirring, a gem of a release from the current decade of music (10's) that sounds like...

heavy Psyche meets thickening Doom Metal, drawn out like a blade, an armory of weaponry that bludgeons the senses and slices reality into an altered state of being. As raw and strong as the earth beneath, shaking and erupting with volcanic grandeur, epic as the land it destroys. Thick and abrasive tension, molten and flowing, clouds of vapor spewing from cracks in the soil.
