This is the darkest Knife album yet, and I think it is awesome. Plus, references to Judith Butler, Michel Foucault and Margaret Atwood tickle me. I admit though, that for casual enjoyment, I have omitted the about 25 minutes of material, because I found that I didn't enjoy cleaving the album into two discs nor really feel that it flowed with a half hour of dark-ambience sandwiched in the middle. Still though, best Knife album yet and thus far my favourite of the year.

You know when you take Wu Tang mastermind The RZA and give him free reign of the vault at Stax Records the outcome is going to be some great Wu-Tang inspired soul music.
That is a great collection, I'm glad I picked up a copy.

Daniel Bachman ~ Oh Be Joyful

Bachman's music is all acoustic guitar instrumental. He labels his recordings "psychedelic Appalachia" which is a pretty good description of his haunting backwoods songs. "The Bridge of Flowers", "Perigree Moon" and "7 West 45th St." are my favorites along with the 11 min. plus "Sita Ram (Who Is God)" which could be featured in some dusky, atmospheric zombie flick. Maybe the highlight is the rousing medley of "Rove Ryley Rove/Wild Bill Jones/Darling Cory" which makes it difficult not dancing to. I don't know if I'd lump this in with Gothic Americana, maybe it's on a side step to the Twilight Zone.

Epic - Sharon Van Ettan

This record just gets better with each listen. She's starting to become one of my new favorite chick singer/songwriters.

I'm a sucker for bedroom/basement recordings. This album is all over the place in it's fuzzy brilliance. Songs range from sweet, soulful anthems such as:

to short, raunchy, pussy-anthems such as:

Good stuff.

Charles Douglas - Not Your Kind of Music

Double cd compilation of Douglas' releases. 67 songs in all in the style of Daniel Johnston, Jonathan Richman and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Douglas could be lumped in with similar troubled, outsider artists. In his case he got his act together and became a successful writer under a different name. Favorite songs out of many- "Drivin' Around". "'Another Boring Song About Wynona Ryder", "Super High" and "Monkey Island".

V/A - London Is the Place for Me 5 & 6: Afro-Cubism

This is a great series & this double cd set is the best yet in the series. Calypso, jazz, early ska & reggae from late '50s - early '60s London. Favorite tracks: Mighty Terror's "Patricia Gone With Millicent", "Mambo Contempo" by Ginger Johnson, and West African Rhythm Brothers' "Jekafo Ju Agbawo". I love that Afro-Caribbean sound so enjoying this album is easy for me.

That sounds like it would be fantastic. I'm definitely tracking it down!
