Dirtybird Players - Part One

According to some dude's blog, Dirtybird is, "The most exciting record label in dance music."

Okay, it was Mixmag: The worlds dance music and clubbing destination, Whatever.

This is a stellar collection of nouveau house beats, which-- according to some dude who actually does have a blog which is not actually The worlds dance music and clubbing destination, but might be pretty close-- is what the cool kids are all listening to these days. I have no doubt. The compilation was curated by label DJ, and apparent curator, Claude Vonstroke-- the inner Butthead in me is dying right now-- who, according to Mixmag:The worlds dance music and clubbing destination, "...is taking it to the next level". I'm not entirely sure where the previous level was, but I'm nonetheless pretty inclined to agree.

Jaymo & Andy George - Moda Black

See above, replace album, blog, album title, and add two producers.

Thee Oh Sees - Floating Coffin

It's pretty atypical of my musical tastes, but this album over the course of a week, has gone from something I indulge in here and there, to a major addiction. It kinda straddles the fence between punk and garage/noise rock, but considering that, it's ends up sounding pretty original to me.

And So I Watch You From Afar - All Hail Bright Futures (2013)

Very good Math Rock album. Probably gonna be in and around my (very sparse) Top 25 list for the year.

Another good one from these guys. I'm always surprised how their formula stays fresh because they really don't change that much from album to album. And they release a lot of albums.

Have you heard anything else by them? I highly recommend Carrion Crawler/The Dream (it's one album).

This is the first I've heard from them (good ol' Pitchfork). Like I said, It's not typical of my listening preference, but this album just grabbed me. I'm definitely interested in checking out more by them though.

DJ Koze - Amygdala

Had never heard of DJ Koze til someone recommended this album. Though I usually prefer electronic albums without vocals, I did like all the vocal tracks here. Of the guest vocal songs, "Homesick" featuring Ada, "My Plans" with Matthew Dear (one of two MD tracks), "Track ID Anyone?" feat. Caribou, and "Ich Schreib' Dir ein Buch 2013" with Hildegard Knef are my favorites. Great album to chill by or those long drives on the interstate.

Grip Grand - GG Doom! But How?

Very nice. I don't know where these verses came from but I don't seem to have heard them before. Maybe.

Dark Time Sunshine - ANX (2012)

Slept on this one in a major way last year. Had it in my collection for around 6 months or more and haven't listened to it until today. What a fool I was. Really cool futuristic hip-hop by two white guys. Anyone that likes El-P, Eydea & Abilities and the kinda stuff they do, should give this a listen.
