Wavves - Afraid of Heights (2013) This is another one I got yesterday that I'm really enjoying. I've heard King of the Beach a few times before and thought it was alright, but a bit annoying at the same time. I ended up rating it 3/5 and not going back to it after 3 spins. I wouldn't have been that bothered to check out any material after it, except the less goofy cover and the samples sounded really good so here we are. Better production and songwriting. I'm reminded of good Weezer, a tiny bit of sElf in a song or two, and a lot of another surf-influenced indie rock band called Mrs. Magician, whose s/t album from last year I really enjoyed but I like this better. |

Or, you know, they may not. Because people have different tastes...

Love the Foxygen album, should end up in my top ten.

Great vocals from Zoumana Tereta on several tracks, especially "Mali Koori". There are several guest vocalists and musicians featured and this helps make what might have been yet another desert blues jam into a fleshed out, soulful & funky album. Despite the riotous circumstances that surrounded the making of the album, it's very upbeat. Love the duet on the slow blues burner " Poye 2" between Kouyate & Taj Mahal- a true desert blues classic-to-be. |
CHINAWOMAN is a great little band.
Songs include: Show Me The Face; Party Girl, Russian Ballerina I can't post links yet so...you'll just have to have some fun on Google and YouTube xx |

But you know if he still finds it to be a brilliant record 30 years from now, that's all that matters, right? |
I personally think it's your responsibility to realise that you are over-playing an album that you like. Take a breather. It's silly to keep going back till you don't want to any more.
