Velvet Underground: White Light/White Heat
I've been slightly familiar with the Velvet Underground through their debut, but I'd never really gotten into them until yesterday after listening to White Light/White Heat. It's just one of the most fantastic albums I've ever heard. "The Gift" isn't that great after a few listens, but everything else is just flawless.

Clinic - Free Reign II (2013) I enjoyed the original album when I first played it a month or so ago, but after a handful of spins each this version really shines through. Fantastic indie psych. I ought to pick it up on vinyl.

Enslaved - Below The Lights (2003) Goddammit why didn't I get into Enslaved before? I tend to prefer progressive and atmospheric black metal to pure black metal and this album hits the spot very, very nicely.

Stephan Bodzin - Liebe ist...
AMAZING microhouse/minimal techno. He definitely tends to follow the "wall of sound" trancey approach where songs build up for 4 minutes and then all the components rhythmically coalesce in an orgy of awesome, and though it's formulaic, it fuckin' works and it gets me every time. For fans of Pantha du Prince, Paul Kalkbrenner, and maybe even people who enjoy techy alt-rock like Matthew Dear and LCD Soundsystem. |

Digging the vinyl only debut album from Peter Parker's Rock N Roll Club. There's a raw rock 'n' soul sound here that reminds me of late '50s R&B as well as early Stones. Great vocals and songwriting are helped by top-notch sound quality. Even though there's an early days of rock 'n soul feel to the album, many of the songs deal with modern topics, such as "Multiple Sexuality" and "Mr. DeVille". It's too bad the album has yet to see cd or download versions available as it deserves a wide release. |

Jane's Addiction—s/t I think I literally haven't listened to this album in over twenty years. I have a fancy new pair of headphones and am giving a spin at this very moment and, damn, it's still really great after all this time. |
