Rx Bandits - Mandala (2009)
A really interesting mix of styles; Rx Bandits used to be a ska band, but I guess over time they went in a more progressive direction, leading us to what we hear here. The playing is really tight and clean, and the guitars and vocals almost remind me of the Mars Volta sometimes. I really dig the ska and post-hardcore flavors left over from their earlier material Favorite tracks: It's only Another Parsec, Hope is a Butterfly etc, Bury it Down Low I don't have 15 posts yet so I can't link you, but if you do a youtube search of Rx Bandits, their music video for Hope Is A Butterfly should be up near the top if you want a taste... |

Delving deeper into microhouse and minimal techno, it was only a matter of time before I came across Pantha du Prince. Love it. As ozzystyles over at RYM put it (better than I ever could): Quote:

Cough - Sigillum Luciferi Batlord posted one of their songs in the WAYLT thread which I enjoyed, so I am now giving this a listen. First track is immense. (Sludge/Doom Metal)

Ambulance - The Curse of Vale Do Lobo (2003) Simply one of the most brilliant and engaging IDM albums I've ever heard...and I've heard a lot. I've been enjoying this album for the past few years but it never ceases to blow me away when I put it on. I really wish they'd released more than just this album. One of the two members records as Sunken Foal and his material is also very good, just short of the brilliance found here. Lay down and listen to this work of art. Criminally overlooked.

Stepped up on the newest Jimmy Cliff offering. Wasn't buying all the hype and bit the bullet for 9.99. I was a little leery of it being that it was produced by Tim Armstrong. I was pleasantly surprised and have really enjoyed the return to Roots Reggae. He does a couple of covers which aren't exactly stellar but overall its a righteous album. Cliff has always had that soothing good vibe feel and has always been a lyrical poet. |
