Wolfgang Dauner - Output

Really interesting Avant-Garde Jazz album that goes all Krautrock and electronic at times.

An amazing album from an amazing band.

I know. Some people were lucky enough to catch both them and Radiohead at the same concert. I'm envyous.

Frank Ocean-Channel Orange: I'm not really into R&B, but Frank is an amazing singer and the lyrics really speak to me.

M83-Hurry Up, We're Dreaming: I love it's very retro 80s feel.

Holy ****.

This is really ****ing good. I wasn't expecting much due to the fact that this is the first thing that they've released since 1991, but I love this album.

^ I'm pretty bored by it, but I suppose it takes more than one listen. Or maybe it's just boring to me.

It sounds a lot like a Boris record: I guess the masters have become the students. :finger:

Emancipator - Dusk To Dawn (2013)

At first I wasn't that blown away by this album, it sounded too much like his past two albums without much progression as a musician, but as I listen to it repeatedly I'm starting to get a sense of all the little nuanses on display. I didn't realize how big of a jazz influence was on this album, and while it can go into the smooth jazz territory at times, it still fits the mold of the songs. It probably won't blow you away unless you're brand new to emancipator's style of music, but it's still a solid album with some great downtempo beats.

Doctor Nerve - Did Sprinting Die?

This is my first physical copy of a Doctor Nerve album that I've owned (only $0.68 at a local record store's sale bin), and it's a damn good one too. The album contains 8 live tracks and 3 "computer generated pieces." I prefer the live portions (although there are several moments of unplanned feedback) to the CGPs because the MIDI instruments don't do the tracks any real favour.

The live tracks are hectic, technical avant-prog, which is not a bad thing. There are some songs that sound like free jazz, but knowing the nature of the group, I doubt that. There are also some motifs borrowed (in respect, I don't think that the group is plagiarizing) from other groups such as Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ornette Coleman, and a few others that I recognize but can't place. If you'd like a link, just PM me.

I'm a fan of Madvillain, but I really like the darker atmosphere DOOM is going for here.

I like the Viktor Vaughn album quite a bit more than Madvillain's. Both are good, but I think VV is my favorite DOOM output.

So far, so great. Only on track 4 and this record's jamming.
