His knack for crafting melodies is astounding, to say nothing of his lyricism. I've loved everything he's released, but I'd say my favorite has to be his second full-length, The Wild Hunt. Every track is a classic for me.
Man, I was so pissed when his Nashville show sold-out. I should have tried out my sex appeal on the security guys.

Don't let the first three songs on this album paint your opinion, this is largely ambient sound sweeps and orchestral sections.

Bill Laswell - Improvised Music New York 1981

An awesome improvisational album that I came across when I was listening to the Derek Bailey radio on Spotify. This is studded with so many incredible artists including, actually I'll just tell you all of them: Bill Laswell, John Zorn, Sonny Sharrock, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, and Charles K. Noyes.

It's surprisingly minimal for the artists involved, I was expecting something like Peter Brotzmann's Machine Gun since all of these artists (apart from Noyes, who I've never heard of) are generally noisy and cacophonous. But these pieces focus more as if these artists together are playing one instrument made up of sax, drums, guitar, and bass. The flow between the instruments in their transference from calm and eerie to abrasive yet still somewhat calm is definitely one of the high points of the album. I really wish that these guys did more work together.

EDIT: I actually have heard Noyes, he's on a Henry Kaiser and Song Won Park album that's also fantastic. He also did an album with Weasel Walter and Kaiser.

Yeah, for some reason I thought that Adventure was their debut and figured that I'd start there. Still a great album, though, so the fact that Marquee Moon is generally considered to be better definitely bodes well.

Kawabata Makoto, Anla Courtis & Rokugenkin - Kokura

Beautiful mellow drone music so far. Sounds like the kind of album which will take a noisy turn at some point but I wouldn't complain if it continued in this vein. Delicious.
