I really have to thank Gunnels for turning me on to these guys. They describe themselves as electroswing, which works well enough as a descriptor I guess, though they're really more like electro gypsy jazz. They sound sort of like an updated version of "Lucas with the Lid Off" which is definitely a compliment. If the concept of jazz retrofuturism in jazz appeals to you, they're worth a listen.

Posted about this album back in May and no takers :( Glad there are a few fans now though.

I remember liking one of the tracks. **checks last.fm** Yeah, I listened to the album. "Je M'Amuse" appears to be my favourite, as I listened to it twice :)

Will check it out again.

Seams, Tourist/Sleeper. Electronic artist Seams puts two of his EPs together for one glorious LP. Warm, friendly, fun IDM. I haven't really looked too far into the IDM genre (though thanks to Janszoon, I'm abut to), but I really, really like this. Then again I've been on a sludge/metalcore binge lately so I may just be enjoying it so much because it's pretty much the polar opposite of my current obsession.

I've always loved Kendrick, and this album will go down as one of the greatest Hip-Hop albums of all time.

OM - Advaitic Songs

http://www.metalkingdom.net/album/co...itic_songs.jpg

Pretty sure this'll be my release of the year. OM strays further away from doom and into eastern-tinged psychedelic rock, with great success. The (relatively) new drummer breathes life into the band and works well with Al's evolving style. It's a near-flawless album, my only complaint being the uninspired thrice-repeated sample used at the beginning of "Sinai".

GET IT

Highlight: "Haqq al-Yaqin"... an epic of a closer which harkens back to the hypnotic drumming OM is known for, throwing in tabla drums and other awesome instruments for one ball-shriveling trip

^^ Ah, son of a bitch. I knew there was one 2012 album I really wanted to check out that I had totally forgotten about! I'll have to get on that.

DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT - WIDOWMAKER (2012)

Fear not, Widowmaker is the name of the album, and this is neither the dodgy band featuring that guy from Mott The Hoople or short lived Dee Snider-fronted cock-rock abomination.

Widowmaker is an album comprising of one track, split into three parts, from Liverpool based band Dragged into Sunlight. It doesn't quite fit into any one genre, to its utmost credit.

The album begins with a slow-burning guitars at a melodic, gradual yet rather uneasy pace, layering in other instruments, such as a piano, and almost leads the listener to a state of a false sense of security - before erupting into a violent, ugly assault of blackened death/doom. Absolutely magnificent record that I can't get enough of.

“A few blastbeats, a scrawled logo and people accept it, regardless of the reality. DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT is a concept, we’ve taken the time to come up with our own understanding and presentation of what we want to see associated with extreme metal in 2009 and beyond.

Now enjoy the wonderful trailer, featuring the music and the artwork.
