Crystal Castles - III

I'm now completely convinced this has been a pretty good year for music. We are getting towards the end and we are still getting some great albums. It was going to be hard to top II - and I'm not sure they did - but it's still a great album nonetheless. I'm always impressed by how willing Crystal Castles are to experiment...they always come up with really interesting textures. If you liked I or II, this should satisfy.

Sounds nothing like I or II though. Still so solid though, love their darker approach

I listened to their debut earlier and it is pretty cool. Not really all that impressive, but I liked it fine.

The Black Keys - Rubber Factory

Easily my favourite Black Keys album and one of their better tracks.

way better than their later albums, although I enjoyed Brothers. That's a solid album.

And hopefully you stick around here for a bit now!

I just love this. Probably in my Top 10 albums of all time at this point.
That is a fantastic album. I haven't listened to it in quite some time now actually. I may have to revisit it.

I think it sounds like a logical progression from II. It takes some of those sounds and explores them a little further. They were definitely getting darker by II.

I'm a bit indifferent about I myself, so if you liked it at all I think you should like II even more.

II is way better and III kind of lands in between I and II.

Grimes, Geidi Primes. Psychedelic lo-fi electronica with unearthly, sweetly sung vocals. Occasionally danceable. Filled with quotes from Dune, apparently. It's not really like anything that I ever listen to, but I really like it.

Man Is The Bastard, Mancruel. Sludgy, jazz-influenced powerviolence with several vocalists who all sound like they should be singing in a death metal band. Sometimes turns into an ambient noise band. Thank you Janszoon for turning me on to these guys, this is seriously great. Like, seriously, really, truly great.

The Roots, Phrenology. A hip hop band with live instruments creates a record that goes everywhere from old school rap to hardcore punk to jazz. Pretty dang good. Maybe not my favorite hip hop record, but definitely a good one.

It's always nice when you recommend something to someone and they end up really liking it! That is such a great album.

You might also dig The Red List...

...which is a fantastic split between Man is the Bastard side project Bastard Noise and the Canadian powerviolence band The Endless Blockade. Really good stuff imo.
