I'm slowly, but surely, falling head over heels for this album. Anthony Fantano loved it so obviously I had to give it a go, and now it's all I'm listening too. I haven't even given the other two albums I downloaded a listen yet cause this has every inch of my attention still.

Menace Ruine - The Die Is Cast (2008) This album was recommended to me a few months back but I've only got around to listening to it this week. This album has a fascinating style, it's drone doom with a twisted medieval folk vibe. They use heavily distorted synths instead of guitars, which lends an eerie and otherworldly sound, along with folky female vocals and various percussion. The best track on the album is the near 17-minute epic 'The Bosom Of The Earth' which is so good it feels like it should have been longer.

This is the first Zeuhl album that I've heard, and I'm pretty impressed so far. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of this band's catalog. 椎名 林檎 (Shiina Ringo) - Shōso Strip I'll be honest: I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. A perfect J-Rock/J-Pop album. This is some great instrumental hip hop. It's too bad that J Dilla died a few days after this was released. |

Pretty shocking to me that Juicy J is now so firmly entrenched in the Taylor Gang movement, if only because his earlier work with Three 6 is essentially the opposite of what he now raps about. More about partying than thugging, which is awesome because Juicy is one of the best rappers to ever live when it comes to ridiculous party rap. Every song is a classic, and the production on this is actually not to bad. |
