David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World
http://popshifter.com/wp-content/upl...ldtheworld.jpg Haven't listened to this album for years, so as I await a goal in the Wigan-Middlesborough game I thought I'd stick it on again. I know a lot of fellow Bowie fans who think of this as their favourite, and it's hard to disagree. Just end-to-end proto-metal brilliance. The first two songs are incredible. Steely Dan - Aja http://www.progarchives.com/progress...3182482008.jpg Another album I've been giving a well-earned rest 'til today. Jazz-rock at its finest and Steely Dan's masterpiece (in my opinion). Leonard Cohen - The Future http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg And ditto with this one. Terrific lyrics, very well-produced, and home to one of my favourite album-openers. |

This is the most beautiful Neil Young album I have listened to from start to finish. All the songs are simply great. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg I got this album a long time ago and never appreciated it until recently. 2pac has grown on me a lot and his beats are so cool and dark and old school not to mention the fact that he has a great style. |
Andrew Bird - Weather Systems
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XoS1XkWNUV...er+systems.jpg Starting getting back into Andrew Bird for my his discography review thread that I've been doing. I never fully appreciated this album and I sort of just realized it's genius and I can't get enough of it now. The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Out Hair We're Gone? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x-PAZQF-lr...320/o98467.jpg Thanks to Stu's top 25, I've been getting into this band and especially this album. This is just a really fun album and it gets better with every listen. |
Ibe album I truly, got into last night was one of the quietest, most ambient albums i have - The Long Walk Home by Peter Gabriel - his soundtrack to the movie Rabbit Proof Fence - really love the way this album swells in sound and then subsides, and the recurring themes musically and sonically - make it an accomplished piece of fil score composition... and some moving music, too!

Slide in all directions One of the man's best songs that, without a doubt. |

Cynic - Focus (Remastered) Supposedly a classic album, the first to combine elements of jazz-fusion and death metal together in an appreciable way. I have to say that after some lengthy listening to Focus, I can see where a lot of modern day "melo-death" bands and certain prog. metal outfits derived their sound from, but are ultimately unable to surpass. Tracks like 'Veil of Maya' and 'Endless Endeavors' don't sound like they came from 1993 at all! |
Cynic is a band I need to get around to. Someone described them as a "mindfuck in musical form".

Now this is a mixtape. Every song is good, most of them are great. Happily, Novel kept it short and didn't stuff on any filler, which is pretty common even in my limited experience of mixtapes. The title is a little misleading, there is a lot more than Kanye remixes on here - Coldplay, Adelle, Lupe Fiasco. Plus a bunch of originals that stand up very well on their own. |
