Ben Frost's By the Throat, which is a dark ambient album that swells with strings and abrasive noise. So satisfying.

Definitely checking this out!!!

As far as the last month, last.fm tells me these two new acquisitions were my favorites, and I could concur:

杉本拓と佳村萌 [Taku Sugimoto & Moe Kamura]: さりとて [Saritote] and さりとて2 [Saritote II]

I agree, there is a lot of fluff (I left out Counterparts...which I actually think is the strongest of their 90's stuff). Still, I find those albums infinitely more interesting than Hold Your Fire.

At least tell me you do enjoy their 80's work (aside from Hold Your Fire) because it's really great, in my opinion.

Mary Halvorson Trio—Dragon's Head
Some great guitar/bass/drums jazz here. I'm not always all that into jazz guitar, but Mary Halvorson is fantastic. Avant-garde yet exceedingly mellow, almost like a laid-back version of the Flying Luttenbachers in some places.

Ah, that's really flattering. I hope you enjoy both as much as I did. What was the other, might I ask?

Keaton Henson - Dear.
Bon Iver meets John Martyn via Fink, Jeff Buckley and Daniel Johnston innocence.

Patchy in places but there are some really interesting mixes on here and it's not just an album full of wub wub wub generic Dubstep. No vids though.

all empirical evidence points to a wonderful deconstruction of the mythical album
