No Trend - Too Many Humans.

Check out the Dozen Dead Roses LP too, possibly even better.

Incredible Bongo Band - Bongo Rock

This band is basically THE foundation of a lot of Hip Hop (in terms of samples used, and what breaks should sound like) and I f*cking love the tune.

One of many tracks that sampled it.

Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull (2008)
I didn't think too much of it on the first listen but damn this sounds good when you listen to it a second time. It manages to have a sense of doom and dread without being heavy or piling on the distortion. The sparseness of the music at times adds a strange sense of loneliness, like you are stranded on your own in the middle of nowhere and night is starting to fall.

Morkobot—Morbo
Two basses, a drum kit and some of the best music of 2011 imo. I've heard this Italian instrumental three piece compared to Zu, presumably because of the similar line up and the shared country of origin, but they're really pretty different. Morkobot are heavier, crunchier and much more groove oriented. The interlocking, rhythmic nature of their songs shares a certain similarity Meshuggah or possibly some doom-infused version of Primus, though certainly more experimental and mathy than either of those bands. Anyway, if you like off-kilter heavy music you absolutely owe it to yourself to hit the play button on this youtube video:

Mamaleek - Kurdaitcha

Experimental Black Metal band from San Fransisco. Quite abrasive sounding and with a lot of shoegaze-esque fuzz over the guitars and there's an awesome doom riff somewhere in the middle as well. I love it, and I normally hate black metal.

Really cool traditional doom metal, neatly summarizing 70's heavy metal and psychedelic metal in one surprisingly fresh package. I was shocked to find out it was released last year. Love the singer's voice.
Yeah I'm glad I picked this up too... It was rating high on a lot of psychedelic end of year top albums lists and I had to check it out. Very psychedelic. It ended up making it awfully high up my list considering getting it in the last week of December...

Dessa - Castor, the Twin (2011)

I grabbed this shortly after it came out last year but it got buried underneath all the other albums I was trying to cram in before the year was up, and seeing as how this is mostly old stuff redone, it was put at the bottom of the pile. I'm a little sad that I didn't get on it earlier because this has some really nice new versions of her songs, a few I heard when I saw her live in May. If you're a Dessa fan then you really should give this a listen because it showcases just how beautiful her voice is.

Every additional time I listen to this album, I become more convinced that it is a work of emotional genius.
