Of Montreal - False Priest

This is so fucking obnoxious, but I'm not sure I care. It's childish and garish and perverse, but has some moments of brilliance. I find its ridiculousness endearing, which is good, because I need to get familiar with this if I'm going to see them in March.

I just happened to download this myself. I was looking for some good ambient and saw that this recommended by a lot of people. I haven't listened to it yet, so I'm glad to hear more praise for it. I'll be giving it a listen soon.

I just didn't like this album at all. I feel there is a line between being hectic for the good of the song and pointless rambling... This album is full of the latter. I'm really hoping their next album is a return to form because False Priest was a disappointment for me.

See, I actually thought False Priest was a lot more focused and less obnoxious than Skeletal Lamping, but the quality of songwriting just isn't as good.

Thecontrollersphere saw the death of the Georgie Fruit thing, and Paralytic Stalks is supposed to be a return to the dark and confessional writing on Hissing Fauna. I'm very excited, I've heard nothing but good things yet.

Oh, and I'll throw my praise for Pop out there as well.

There is no Chokebore love around here from what I've seen. This hasn't left my disc tray for a week now. These riffs are perfectly melancholic, and played over some of the best drumming I've heard in a while. Troy's voice is almost beyond perfect for singing these sombre hymns. I am inclined to say that depressing black metal owes its existence to this record. Put this on late at night, and let the tears flood your pillow.

Hardcore Punk that isn't really Hardcore Punk. It's a strange, bleak and hostile album - both in sound and subject matter - with noise, post-punk, no-wave and dark psychedelic influences distinguishing it from the band's contemporaries. Great listen for the misanthropes out there.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust

Really cool traditional doom metal, neatly summarizing 70's heavy metal and psychedelic metal in one surprisingly fresh package. I was shocked to find out it was released last year. Love the singer's voice.

Solstafir - Kold

Blackgaze in the vein of Alcest, with more forgiving vocals. Very bleak.

I can't see the picture. What album is it, I am interested.
