it's due to Scratch's production, but Romeo actually does write some good socially conscious lyrics (albeit slightly preachy)

now that you mention it.....it is a bit long.....i do love how they can go from super sludgy riffs to really clean well placed riffs....i don't recall them really doing that on the last album

This is fantastic. Very Tom Waits-ish. I'm just getting more into dark cabaret and this is one of those bands that can hook you in. My favourite tracks are Pay the Rope, Dirty Susan, and Dead Hand. I find it trails off a bit in the second half though.

Better than Innumerable Seeds of Calamity and even more Tom Waits-ish. Really good mix of upbeat black cabaret songs, and then haunting slower ones that wouldn't seem out of place at a funeral. Also I didn't notice a second half trail-off. Favourite tracks are 6 Volt Car, New York Girls, and Sing Along.

I've been going through another psychedelic kick. These guys are really great. Think early Pink Floyd on uppers. They throw in some of their own quirks, too...this is really entertaining stuff.

Digging hard on this. Hazy, lo-fi psychedelic murmurs - often utilising nothing more than a distorted-to-fuck electric guitar and bongos. Think swampland on a sultry summer's evening with the setting sun and dark orange skies... And perhaps you can visualise the nature of this beast.

Brian - Understand (1992)
I've been playing this quite a lot over the past week and I'm pretty much hooked on it. Brian was the moniker used by Dublin indie musician Ken Sweeney in the 90's and only recorded two albums and a few EPs and singles. This is a really beautiful album with some wonderful jangly guitars and melancholic, soft-spoken lyrics. It's all you could ever want in an indie-pop record.

there are seriously few albums that create a sense of nostalgia for me as strong as this one.....i still remember being a 15 year old "cure" kid and a friend handing me the single for "smells like teen spirit" and say "listen to this....you'll love it"....ironically the first song i ever heard by Nirvana was the b side "Even In His Youth" (which is still to date...in my opinion....their greatest track ever).....this album opened up a flood gate of great music for me.....and along with just a handful of other albums....for me....was truly life changing

its still hard for me to accept that this came out 20 years ago.....this remaster does not help.....the sound of the original lp is louder and more clear than ever....seriously like an all new recording.....this also has all the b sides of the single...again remastered and sounding better than ever...."Aneurysm" sounds amazing on this disc.....at the end of disc one is a couple of well recorded noisy live tracks.....disc two is basically different recordings of these songs...including (in my opinion) a much better recording of "Lithium"...the drums are toned down a bit and the guitar is so fucking sloppy its perfect....this is in the "Smart" sessions....after this the boombox recordings.....which are interesting but dry after about 3 minutes....disc 3 is basically an alternate recording of the entire album....and disc four is a very well recorded live set from the paramount theater in downtown Seattle.....which really made me reflect on my two chances to see them live that i blew of for very stupid reason.....possibly the biggest mistake i've ever made

A member on another site recently turned me onto City and Colour / Little Hell, and I really liked so I bought it....now I`m looking to add more of Dallas Green`s music to my collection.
