Shugo Tokumaru's 'Port Entropy'. He's a japanese multi-instrumentalist who writes, records, produces and mixes everything himself and on his own. He uses so many different instruments in such effective layers and the music itself is at the same time quirky and beautiful. In a word, he's ****ing badass.
Songs of note are 'Lahaha' and 'Rum Hee' but there are loads of other good ones. His other albums are excellent too. |

Vocokesh - Ispepnaibara This is going down very well at the moment. Scuzzy, lo-fi space rock, courtesy of one of the guys from F/I. Just full to the brim with heavy psychedelic jams. If you like bands such as Hawkwind, give it a go. Last edited by Sneer; 10-10-2011 at 06:09 PM. |

Very nice The fact that it sounds like it was recorded on one mic in someones bedroom adds to the charm.

Great coming-out folk pop album. I pretty much never listen to lyrics when I first listen to an album, but the writing on this album is so sardonic and well-delivered I really couldn't help but notice them. My favourite writing is cynical and clever, and this is an outstanding example of it. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this. |

So, how late am I on this one? I think that while this album was getting all the hype 2 years ago, my only exposure to it was the second track--Two Weeks, which happened to be featured as the jingle for Apple's new iPod commercial that was in maximum rotation on television at that time. I was pretty pleased to find out recently that that was not very representative of the album as a whole. As to how to describe the album? I'll just say I like it and carelessly throw it into the indie pile. I knew that designation had to be good for something sooner or later. |
