The Horrors - Skying (2011) This album is amazing and could very well be one of the best new albums I've heard this year. The band sound fully confident and on top of their game and they've crafted an excellent collection of songs. They seem to draw some influences here from the British post-punk of the late-70s/early-80's, as well as bands like the Stone Roses, yet still sound so fresh, modern and original. Highlights for me are 'You Said', 'Dive In' and 'Still Life'.

Dave Knudson is the fucking bomb. His guitar shreddery on this album consistently blows my mind.
Thrice - Major/Minor (2011) Thrice is a perfect example of a band who never does the same album twice but still outdo themselves every time. So. Freaking. Great. |

Dead Heart Bloom - Dead Heart Bloom A very sophisticated and emotionally-layered Indie/Acoustic album, replete with string arrangements. Really impressed on first listen This song is devastating. Last edited by Sneer; 09-12-2011 at 11:28 PM. |

Fascinating.
Coming In Out Of the Cold is officially one of my favouritist songs ever now. It's just a shame I've discovered this album so late. I'd love to have included it in the old top 100 way back when. And as for today; Dream City Film Club - In the Cold Light Of Morning Indie rock as indie rock bloody should be if you ask me...aka some strange cross between Joy Division, the Birthday Party and the Pixies. |
