I hated Bathory at the time but I have grown to love them (or him I should say) and I love that album art for some reason. I think Blood Fire Death just pips this one though. VERY influential.

It can be fairly repetitive at times, but it eventually grows on you a bit...

I suppose the fuss comes from its influence on post-rock and (for some reason) math rock.

I don't see the math rock influence, but listening to it with the idea that it was one of the first post rockish albums, it really is an interesting album. A lot of bands have really expanded on what they did but I still think Spiderland holds up.

Neither do I, but others swear that they do...

Spiderland is a truly unique album. If you aren't in the mood for it, you're likely to dismiss it.

It's kind of a shame, I'm a Louisvillian and I hear EVERYWHERE about these guys... but I don't like it. I've tried listening to it a few times and always turned it off just because it bores me. :-/

On that note, I have to quote this again...

I picked up the album because of this post by Charlemagne in "Last Album Bought or Downloaded." Fantastic album with an awesome sound. Who would have thought that combining doowop, surf rock, alternative rock, and doom would have worked. But it does. Magnificently. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who's willing to give it a listen.

Disc 33 of the Klaus Schulze Ultimate Edition box set.

Track 1 is mindblowing

the only album of his/theirs outside of the Wobble/Levene period that I love

sorta like an 80s version of Cream with a really bad singer

Calla - Scavengers

This album has been on heavy rotation for about a month now. There isn't a weak song to be found on this in my opinion, the tracks all have this smouldering, moon-lit menace about them - akin to Gun Club and early Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, with an alt-country influence squeezed into the mix too. Very dark and foreboding, which is just how I like it.
