This album makes me want to scream out in agony in the best way imaginable, there is so much emotion and so much passion, it's absolutely heart-wrenching and beautiful. One of my favorites of the year for sure.

Every once in a while Charlemagne posts an album in this thread and I just have to go check it out. This being one of those instances.

Pretty cool album. After seeing them on Violent & Funky's list, I decided to check em out, a little late, but I finally got to it. Very good stuff, very diverse, song after song you get something unique.

Rock-Reggae album, I guess this could be the genre. Almost a Sublime like vibe, good stuff.

I guess this could also be a Rock-Reggae group. Along with their Self Titled album they are really good listen. Not the most unique I admit, but they are fun to listen to.

I'm glad my weird tastes peak your interest every once in a while :) Did you enjoy it?

Yeah it was quite good. I can't wait for my roommate to overhear it one of these days...

I.. love that album. Definitely one of my favorites from the year as well. I like DSBM, so naturally I'm attracted to music like that, but I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would.

DJ Vadim - U.S.S.R. Life From the Other Side (1999)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...eL._SS500_.jpg

More people should listen to DJ Vadim. Excellent instrumental hip-hop and turntablism with a slew of guest underground & conscious MCs on this one: BMS, El-P, Skinnyman, Swollen Members, Starvin' Artists, Sarah Jones, Blu Rum 13, Toastie Taylor, Mucho Mu, Motion Man, Blade, Rakaa-Iriscience, and Mr. Thing. Very smooth stuff.

Laurie Anderson - Big Science

this was a Chirstmass gift from dankrsta....and although it's taken a few listens to really appreciate....this is simply amazing in its simplicity....a sort of advent/minimalist take on electronics with these amazing spoken word pieces....i think that almost everyone here could easily palate this album

Spoiler for a fine example:

I've been wanting to get into Laurie for awhile actually; I'll take your post as a sign that I should get rolling on that, lol. :afro:

A few diggables on my end-

Giant Squid - Metridium Fields

Modern avant-garde metal full of some surprisingly cool ideas, with a fair amount of beauty thrown in for good measure. Fans of folk-metal and Tool..start your engines!

Arthur Russell - Another Thought

Now this here is quite something - it's a terrific blend of progressive pop and post-punk, a "what if Gary Numan, Tom Waits and The Police decided to cut a record together?" scenario, and has probably popped up on a few other radars around here besides mine at some point.

Giant Squid is amazing....Nautical Metal!

i would suggest starting here....very good album....i need to check out more

Vampire Rodents - Lullaby Land (1993)

Look! He's smiling at you.

A fine little collection of Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Ambient, and House music inspired tunes. Not to mention one of the most pessimistic and downright terrifying recordings of it's time. A real treat for the ears if there ever was one.
